Those who possess this proficiency are able to extract and perform surgeries to transplant genetic tissues into themselves and others. Each character is capable of having one active implant, with multiple implants only being possible through the use of juinjutsu to deactivate and activate different kekkei genaki. Transplants themselves generally have drawbacks such as a constant chakra drain seen in stolen dojutsu, requring them to be covered up.
Transplanted/Experimented abilities start at one rank lower than the donor (if no player character donor, then rookie) to a max of journeyman. Unranked transplants (such as byakugan) must be obtained from a donor and require at least a journyman level in this proficiency. Experimentation does not have a master rank or above. Transplants that started without a player character donor cannot advance in rank past rookie without gathering additional genetic material from a valid donor.
Requirement: Journeyman level Fuinjutsu Juinjutsu (Lit: Cursed Seal Techniques) are a derivative branch of the Fuinjutsu proficiency. The sealing art itself focuses on ancient principles of near runic and mechanical applications of chakra. Juinjutsu applies the same principle, but on the mind - and with various applications to the world around it. Juinjutsu itself is unranked but can be improved upon with each rank up put into fuinjtusu.
At its heart, Juinjutsu controls things - basic users will be able to moderate one's language whereas more advanced users would be able to use it as a mechanic to trigger harsher traps for the unwitting participant. Masters of this art would be able to affirm some limited control over people, things, beings and summons - but those with living chakra systems always act independently of extraneous forces.
When you feel that your character has made significant progression, you may submit to upgrade or add a new ability to their repitoire. If the staff agree that the evidence is appropriate then an upgrade or new proficiency will be allowed after it passes review. Many things are factored into the appropriate time for an upgrade or new proficiency.
Time How long has it been since the last improvement to the character? With enough time even a character that hasn't had a lot of in character development would likely have trained enough in their free time to warrant an upgrade. Conversly a character can only cut learning times down so much by pushing themselves.
Level of Proficiency The higher level a proficiency is, the more time and effort it will take to upgrade. New proficiencies and unlocking kekkei genkai also generally take a solid backing.
The Stakes Participating in staff led events and challenging fights against enemy characters controlled by other members are some of the highest weighted forms of evidence that can be submitted. Keep in mind that dunking on much weaker characters isn't going to have much impact on progression, nor will showing up at events and gawking on the sidelines.
Implementation Using the proficiency in missions and friendly spars are great ways to improve a skill. You are also able to simply write your character running drills or reading about a skill- we tend to assume that stuff happens during down time but it is okay to do in moderation.
Mentorship If another member controlled character has a proficiency (other than a kekkei genkai), instructional threads are very highly weighted and beneficial to the character.
Overall Story If you take the time to put together a series of threads that make up a strong story arc that has a lot of character development in it that will be looked upon extremely favorably. Even with minimal focus on the item to be added or upgraded, a string of related threads rich in plot and story structure can be used as strong evidence.
Relationships Doing threads with multiple people assists in progression by exposing characters to more ideas, techniques, resources, and more. The number of different member's characters interacted with in threads submitted as evidence for an improvement will be considered as well. Even social threads can be useful towards this consideration.
Thread Diversity Doing a lot of the same thing over and over is less favorable than a varied upgrade submission. Try to have a little bit of everything for us.
Relevance We do factor in how relevant the threads are to the desired proficiency or skill. You are not restricted to only submitting direct training attempts or usage of a skill in each thread, as we do take into account for overall character growth. However, tying in what your character is working on to your threads is looked on favorably.
Overall Progress: The more proficiencies and upgrades that are obtained, the more difficult it is to gain new proficiencies and upgrades.
Note We understand that improving your character's capabilities is one of the hallmark appeals of shonen and that it is exciting to think about how they will grow, please practice some amount of temperance in pacing your requests.
Frequent upgraders and more powerful characters in general may experience longer wait times for review due to needing multiple staff members to look over submitted threads over to ensure evidence is sufficient.
Heritage Heritage proficiencies are always dormant, requiring a single slot and no further investment. These allow the character possessing them to awaken their clan’s kekkei genkai, and while using it, not suffer drastic shortages of chakra. No character may have more than one heritage proficiency, and it must be taken at creation. A heritage proficiency cannot be stolen, transferred, or otherwise exchanged. Note that this should not be confused with the kekkei genkai itself, it is the potential to have a kekkai genkai.
Kekkei Genkai Kekkei Genkai (Bloodline Limits) are an inheritable ability via a Heritage proficiency (detailed above). However, they also possess a unique trait of being acquirable via player character death - to the victor go the spoils. If one wishes to start with a kekkei genkai proficiency, they need to have the prerequisite heritage proficiency. The same is true if one wishes to unlock a kekkai genkai without another character’s death, but as a result, they will suffer no unnatural drawbacks from the use of it.
If you possess a transplanted kekkei genkai proficiency, you will inherently start at the level it was acquired. Unfortunately, this does not mean your character will be able to control it - in fact, the higher level the kekkei genkai, the more detrimental it can be. Whether it be through chakra exhaustion, failure in long-term use, or simply being too much to bear, one must have a way to control it. Dojutsu is the easiest, as covering the eye prevents it from drawing chakra. Otherwise, the most common method for this is Juinjutsu, detailed below.
Clan Hijutsu Clan Hijutsu proficiencies are specialized jutsu that are taught to members of a clan. Hijutsu that deal predominantly with taijutsu replace a character's taijutsu proficiency, while others act as their own proficiceny.
Name [Level]: Post a new thread in this board with this template the first time you want to add a new proficiency or upgrade one. Do not post in the notify thread, these requests will be reviewed periodically. All threads used should be archived by submitting them here prior to the request (submitting for archive as you finish each thread will improve our speed and efficiency). You can still submit threads that were incomplete in the case of the other roleplayer(s) being archived, you will be credited for the posts with an exemption to completing the story. Events are an exception- they can be claimed even while they aren't complete and may be used automatically if it will push you over the limit to get an upgrade.
Early Turn in Policy: If a thread has not been responded to by your partner(s) in two weeks, but has not yet been archived, you may link the thread in as if it were complete for the purpose of upgrading. Once this is used the thread cannot be used again even as posts continue.
Only the person(s) left waiting can get credit for the early turn in, the person who wasn't posting has to complete the thread or wait for it to be archived.
All participants other than the one who hasn't responded in two weeks has to agree to use this policy.
Change the title of this field to the name of the proficiency and the level it will be. If you are wanting to change the about section replace the title with "About". For changes to the application change the title to "Picture" and put a direct link in the description (500px width picture). If it is an enhancement proficiency just remove "[level]". In the description you should put verbatim what you would like the changes to say. For changes to the about section if you are not just adding to the bottom, please paste the entire about section as you want it to appear on the character application.
Do not post multiple upgrade stations for a single character. Use the same thread every time that you upgrade.
Important! Please do not post WIP upgrades here, only post here when you are ready to request an upgrade.

FAQ
How far, How Strong, Etc- Key words inside of proficiencies exist to help guide you by making relative comparisons to another character. If someone has a proficiency that they can engage from at a long range and the other has one that can be engaged from a medium, then the first person is going to have the advantage in ranged combat scenarios. We don't deal in hard numbers for things and instead use relativity.
Can I be from Konoha- Only if your character is over seventy years old, as Konoha was conquered. You can play characters from Konoha clans anywhere.
Can I be from Sunagakure- As long as the character is older than twelve. The people of Sunagakure no longer live in the desert because it is too dangerous, and have been integrated into the society of the Hidden Rain. You can also make missing ninja from Suna.
Can I be from -insert minor village-- Yes, the larger villages have conquered minor villages which now serve as military outposts. Shinobi from these villages swear loyalty to the conquering village in order to receive shinobi training. You can also make missing ninja from these villages.
Can I be ANBU- In our roleplay ANBU is not a position. Chunin and above are assigned to missions to hunt missing ninja and perform other black ops tasks. See here for more details about this as well as how our site is structured when it comes to shinobi teams.
The ability I want isn't on the lists- Check the ban/restricted list, if it isn't there just add it to your sheet or post it up with an upgrade with what your character can do with it. When we review we'll make a decision about the proficiency and we may want a tweak or two. You need to register a clan for customized physiological traits (kekkei genkai) or hijutsu you only want the clan to be able to use.
How is Aging Handled- A characters age goes about every six months of tenure they have on the site. This will be done in periodic sweeps by the staff in batches.
Avatar Sizes- The hover avatar image is 250px by 350px and the profile image is 150x150
What happens if my character dies?- On character death, your next character is allowed to advance/learn new proficiencies equal to the amount of proficiencies their dead character had learned (in play), minus one. This can even be moved to a new character of a higher rank (through taking a rank claim or making a missing ninja). During events, this penalty is removed. Some events may offer up lotteries that give a member a chance to get something unique if their character dies.
Can I play a jinchuriki?- No country has yet captured a tailed beast. It will take locating a beast, defeating it, and having a high level of mastery in fuinjutsu to produce the first jinchuriki. Think of creating a jinchuriki as the site's "space race".
Shinobi make a name for themselves as they make their mark on the world. While it may seem counterintuitive at first, well known shinobi bring in clients and deter enemies. Developing a good reputation within the village is needed in order to receive selection for promotion.
Meeting the renown requirement does not mean automatic promotion, but it is a minimum requirement to be considered for it. Things like demeanor, abilities, and the availability of positions also play a part in the selection process.
Missions
The main way to raise renown is by completing missions. Missions help the village meet its financial goals by completing paid tasks. Missions are not moderated by the staff (with the exception of S-Rank), we recommend partnering up and writing the enemies that the other person is directly engaged with. You are also responsible for coming up with the premise of the mission, but if you need ideas you can always post in your local kage tower (found in each village board) for guidance.
D-Rank: A simple task usually performed by a few genin. These missions no longer grant renown once a character reaches 5 renown.
C-Rank: A mission outside of the village often done by a chunin accompanied by a genin to handle things like bandits and wild animals. These missions grant diminishing returns after 10 renown and stop increasing renown after 25 renown is reached.
B-Rank: Missions that take place outside the village that may involve encounters with other shinobi fall under this level. These can be performed by a pair of chunin.
A-Rank: Missions that involve dealing with very powerful shinobi or threats like it fall under this category. A jonin and a chunin are typically assigned to these missions.
S-Rank: S-Rank missions involve threats at a sanin or kage level and will typically require multiple jonin to complete. Typically only jonin are assigned to these missions, but an advance chunin or special jonin might accompany as an add on to provide support.
Missing Ninja
Just like village shinobi, missing ninja gain renown as well when they perform crimes. Missing ninja typically do not want to raise their notoriety, but sometimes it is unavoidable. For those that want to raise their notoriety, they can do crimes similar to that of missions and submit them to receive points. Notoriety isn't all bad, as sometimes it can grant leads (see events).
Killing a missing ninja (played by another member) grants a fifth of their renown total to the people that kill them. Likewise if a missing ninja kills someone they gain a fifth of their renown.
Note: Some missing ninja do not desire fame. In threads where the missing ninja can successfully hide their identity AP gain will be supressed. Using rare types of jutsu or removing a disguise are ways that can cause the staff to determine that their renown may still increase.
Events
Events are staff run events that typically offer some sort of award at the end, including renown. Most events are open for anyone to join, but some will have requirements for characters to be of a certain renown to be invited to attend.
The chunin exams are an event that will grant a genin a lot of renown if they are successful. They provide experience as well and are a way to fast track promotion to chunin.
Misc
You can submit any completed thread if you think it might merit some renown. The higher renown your character is, the more scrutinized this will be. This shouldn't be threads where you are eating ramen noodles with grandpa, but things that might get around town and increase how well known you are.
How do I turn in a thread?
Post a link in this thread. Do not post links to character applications, this is only for completed RP threads (see application instructions for how to notify staff).
Include a description of the clans general heritage below. You may have a clan favor a certain village, but we will allow a clan to appear in any village. Please make sure to visit the ban & restricted list to make sure you aren't apping for something we for sure won't allow.
Hijutsu/Kekkei Genkai/Enhancement
Proficiency Name Requirements: Any kekkei genkai starts as a dormant slot. A second proficiency is used to unlock it. If not a keikkei genkai list other requirements here.
We do not allow clans for things like manipulating formula paper, gum, plastic, or other processed materials. We also do not allow clan locked advanced release. These ideas are open for anyone to use. Beyond that no clan should have multiple hijutsu or multiple kekkei genkai (one of each is acceptable).
Suggested Proficiencies
In this spot you can suggest proficiencies that members of the clan often take that aren't part of their hijutsu/keikkei genkai
Post a link to the filled out template in this board and the staff will review it. Correction requests will be sent via private message to the account that posted the clan for review. After the first review, you can just reply back in the thread!

The Kaguya Clan is often found outside villages more often than they are. They often band together into large tribes and raid territories until someone comes to kill them, which is a difficult task in and of itself. Some Kaguya have made their way into villages and become more civilized, and they are often found in Kirigakure, Kumogakure, and Otogakure in small numbers.
Those Kaguya that possess the clans kekkei genkai often make fearsome opponents.
Kekkei Genkai
Bone Manipulation Requirements: Starts as a dormant slot. A second proficiency is used to unlock it.
Kaguya that possess the clan's kekkei genkai have incredibly durable bones that they are able to mould into various shapes. More advanced Kaguya are able to grow and eject excess bones from their bodies to use as both melee and projectile weapons. Injuries to the bone are typically able to be healed easier and easier as the user advances in this proficiency as well.
The Hozuki clan hail from a background in piracy, and many of its members make their homes as shinobi in the Hidden Mist Village. Known for their expeditious nature, they can appear just about anywhere, favoring coastal territories. Many members of the clan file their teeth to make themselves look more intimidating, but they are predominantly known for their ability to turn into water.
Hijutsu
Hydrification Hozuki learn how to turn their bodies into water. At first this requires a great deal of concentration and the moulding of many hand seals, making it somewhat difficult for practical use. As a Hozuki learns more about their hijutsu they can begin keeping their bodies in a liquid state while maintaining their form, which allows them to turn into water expeditiously. In this form they can use their bodies as a source of water for suiton techniques, but they also become vulnerable to lighting, even a small shock can disable them and turn them into a pile of jelly. Hozuki normally can not use other elemental ninjutsu while they have hydrification enabled, although some grand masters have been able to defy this limitation.
Hydrification causes extreme thirst as it is used, as little splashes of water escape the user as they move. The Hozuki can replenish by drinking more fluid. The other limitation of hydrification is that it consumes a moderate amount of chakra with each shift.
The Hyuga Clan has changed since the fall of their homeland. For many years the clan was made up of two branches, a main house and a side branch. When the clan was scattered in the aftermath of the invasion, it was impossible for the surviving members of the main branch to keep tabs on the bloodline or rule it. This didn't stop the cursed mark placed on the side branch members from being problematic, as Hyuga joined different villages the secret hand seal to activate their curse marks was spoiled. For a time Hyuga with cursed marks were seen as more a liability than an asset in the shinobi world, so they began receiving assignments to defensive positions and in training others. Now that several generations have passed and cursed marks no longer exist, the scattered Hyuga clan members are regarded as respectable allies.
The power of the byakugan has since spread outside of the confines of the clan because of mingling outside of it, but the gentle fist hijutsu still remains a closely guarded secret for those who know it.
Kekkei Genkai
Hyuga Heritage Those that possess this heritage have the potential to awaken the byakugan. It usually awakens at a very young age, but it is not unheard of for it to go dormant for some time.
Byakugan Requirements: Hyuga Heritage The byakugan is an unranked kekkei genkai that grants the user the ability to see at nearly three hundred and sixty degrees with their vision while it is active. Furthermore, the byakugan can see through objects and detect chakra networks, even able to pick out an individuals chakra points. A byakugan does take a small amount of charka to keep active and causes the veins around the eyes to become engourged.
Hijutsu
Gentle Fist The gentle fist is a taijutsu style that utilizes the powerful vision granted by the byakugan to deliver careful bursts of chakra into an opponents chakra points. With a successful strike they can disrupt a persons chakra points with a simple touch. More advanced users learn to better control their raw chakra to create powerful barriers to defend themselves or to shape it to extend the range of their strikes. This hijutsu replaces taijutsu proficiency.
It can techically be learned without byakugan, but it simply follows the style of the byakugan with strikes and is incapable of disrupting chakra points.
The Nara Clan has always been spread out around the world, although there were a large number of them in Hi no Kuni before the fall of Konoha. The Nara have traditionally been hunters with a great respect for the wild, with their abilities designed originally to trap animals. In the modern era many Nara act as caretakers to forests and mountains to stop over hunting.
Hijutsu
Shadow Imitation Technique Nara are able to manipulate their own shadows, and should their shadow reach an opponent they are able to control their movements. Extending their shadow takes chakra to maintain, so the hold is not indefinite. More advanced Nara find other ways to manipulate their shadows, such as using them to choke out opponents.
The Yamanaka are a clan known for their abilities related to the mind, rather than the body. A clan native to Konoha, like many others they were scattered after it fell. The Yamanaka's most well known jutsu, the mind body switch technique, requires absolute precision and leaves the user vulnerable, so they most often pair up into teams with shinobi who can help them to entrap opponents. Yamanaka are also known to be good at using sensory abilities and barrier ninjutsu.
Hijutsu
Mind Techniques Yamanaka are capable of projecting their mind outside of their body in order to take possession of another body. This technique is dangerous to perform because missing will leave the body vulnerable for several minutes. Wounds inflicted on the body also afflict the users body, so more clever means of detainment are often needed. Masterful Yamanaka can learn to control bodies without the need to leave their own for a brief period, but such techniques are highly taxing on chakra.
The Akimichi Clan originate from the forests of Hi No Kuni, where they were once viewed as a nuisance by the Nara because of their overhunting of the land. Eventually they were brought together by external threats and later joined in on the founding of Konoha. After the defeat of Konoha there were very few Akimichi left, and because of their calorie needs they often had trouble fitting in with society. Those Akimichi that didn't turn to banditry wound up working in various shinobi villages, where their heritage struggles to continue.
Hijutsu
Calorie Control Akimichi are able to convert calories into energy which can be used to fuel their hijutsu techniques (but not others). Akimichi can expand their bodies into larger forms, starting with brief partial growths at lower levels and eventually leading up to maintaining gigantic sizes. Masters of Akimichi hijutsu can convert their calories into pure chakra with the assistance of pills, this grants them a powerful chakra cloak that can be used to create gusts of chakra and enhancements to strength. This however will leave the Akimichi very thin, and it will take at least twelve buffets to repair it.
Where there are bugs, there are Aburame. From a young age members of this clan receive body modifications and are bonded with insects. As they grow to maturity they are able to use these swarms in combat. The Aburame has many branches, and some do not even refer to themselves as Aburame. The most popular offshoot is the Kamizuru, who favor using bees as their hive insects.
Hijutsu
Insects Aburame employ a hive of insects. The most popular hive are Kikaichu, parasitic insects that sustain themselves on chakra. Kikaichu are able to drain the chakra of the users opponents and can even be used for tracking by planting females on an opponent and having male beetles track the pheromone. Kikaichu do use some of the users chakra to sustain themselves, so they tend to have a bit less chakra for other types of jutsu. Different Aburame use totally different insect hives with their own abilities and drawbacks.
Experienced Aburame will also often carry specimens of insects that they are not keeping in a hive in order to increase their versatility.
