Welcome to September's Summon Event! This time around, rhinos will be up for contest! This event will be open for all characters, but be careful; straying too far from home can still be dangerous.
RULES
The event runner will post once per week, starting at the date of this initial post. If your post is not made during this time period, you will need to DM staff and let them know ahead of time. Failure to do so will result in consequences for your character.
A maximum of 3 exemptions will be made per character for missed post rounds. Surpassing this will almost always result in the character's death.
Sign-Ups occur during the first round of posts; ie, the week after this post was made. Any new additions made after this will have their posts delete unless granted explicit permission.
This IS Death Enabled, meaning any character submitted has the chance to die. Classified as an event, you have the choice of EVENT or LOTTERY, affecting how creating your next character will go after your current one's death. More info on the basics of this can be found in Character Rules.
There are a maximum of 2 'victors' named for each summon event. These will be judged based on who has either subdued, or completed the task of, the creature at hand. In doing so, they will have the option to accept or deny, and any living members in the thread may choose to accept in their stead. For a substitute, first come, first serve.
There is no post order! As long as you post within the allotted time limit, your reply will be accepted at any time.
Have fun!
LOTTERY
Choosing to enter this lottery will forfeit the event-death penalty removal for your next character creation, instead allowing your next character to start with a Rookie-Level Summoning Contract Proficiency for rhinos in addition to their other starting skills - if no one successfully completes the event. This will be chosen at random from anyone who has chosen LOTTERY or EVENT.
To submit to the lottery, include LOTTERY in the notes, or at the bottom of your first post in this event. EVENT is purely opt out. There will only ever be one lottery winner per event.
CONTRACT
The contract rewarded to the victor of the event (or lottery) is below! Summoning contracts are a unique proficiency, allowing you to add a new summon each time they are ranked up. While a summoning contract can be advanced normally, they can also be advanced by winning another summon event! In doing so, you obtain an animal of the other event. Any character can summon up to two different species of animal.
The strength of the summon acquired is similar to the rank of your contract at the time. Your fifth summon will be a Master of its ability, while the first a Rookie. There is no Grand Master tier for summons. Note that larger summons consume greater amounts of chakra, but also possess much more chakra in turn.
Rhinoceros Contract [Rookie] [Your Character Here!] has signed a contract with the rhinos. Performing the summoning technique, they can now summon [1/2/3/4/5] different members of the rhinos contract.

Across the horizon, thrown back in time two weeks, reports of a tsunami on land came into the public consciousness. Rumors, tidbits of loose information; it was all everyone was talking about.
"The earth picked itself up and ran at me, I swear!" one concerned citizen could be found saying, "I saw it too! Massive, hulking boulders RUNNING!" another. Like wildfire, it spread, even to the furthest reaches of the continent. The terrifying, mystic walking rocks outside of Iwagakure.
Rhinoceros.
But today, two weeks later, with the world abuzz in their thought of them, only one seemed to remain. A hulking, massive thing - asleep quietly at the bottom of a quarry. Situated like a coliseum, walls slowly curved up, looming around it - completely flat. In the distance, travelers, specks of people; looking for the so-called 'tsunami'.
The beast's nose twitched, massive horn rising to greet the sun as it awoke. The smell of man bringing visible anger to its small, black eyes. Five feet tall on all fours, every inch was thick skin and muscle, a darkly stained horn rising from its skull. A snort as it stood, morning dew dripping off.
"And what will these ones bring?" it brooded, slowly moving towards the scent. "Some fun, I hope."
Can't do it if I try, open your eyes because I will show you, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh (x3), I will show you, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh (x3), and everything you try to say to me, you said it all before (x2), you only fuel the fire, can't you see, and now I want it more, it makes me want it more...
Kureiru Uchiha is running around playing hide-n-seek with her cousin and others from various villages. As she saw a ravine she smiled and hopped down into it. Landing next to a tree she sits in the shade. Upon hearing a snort she looks up to see a giant rhino waking up behind her. Kureiru froze and stayed as quiet as she could.
Standing up quietly she watched her shadow attract the rhino. It snorted again and she smiled. "Come on rhino! Do you think you can take me? Bring it!" she says as she weaves some seals. Using Shunshin to jump backwards, she hoped backup would arrive soon as she began to move away from the rhino. "STAMPEDE! EVERYBODY RUN!" she yelled at villagers who were in the gorge.

Anotsu ambled slowly onto the grounds, both hands pushed casually into the folds of his pockets. The crunch and slight shift of terra beneath his sandals was seemingly purposeful. Though his youthful countenance was veiled by a thick obsidian scarf, the Uchiha's visage spoke of intrigue. Spiked locks swayed gently against the gale, shinobi garb snug against his person and successfully hiding the pouch that rest beneath the folds of his clothing. Chocolate skin peeked out here and there from Anotsu's attire, lines of definition more than evident upon his frame. Naturally arched eyebrows furrowed just slightly as he stopped his trek, standing completely upright with shoulders back. His chin dipped to a degree. Anotsu now stood at the edge of the arena, peering in at the hulking beast that made its approach. [break][break] There were few things in life that could surprise him. This, perhaps fortunately for him, was not one of them. "Acquired." The only word that parted full lips. A hand lofted, his index finger hooked into the scarf covering his countenance and tugged it south. He surveyed the land, taking in every inch of the environment. The winds, the grip of the soil and flora beneath his feet. While his quarry was the priority, there was little doubt in Anotsu's mind that this would not be as simple as physical engagement. He remembered the words of those who had witnessed this gargantuan creature in its birth of kinetic energy. And so he kept his distance, content to examine the area and leave no stone unturned.....and no, that wasn't an Iwagakure pun. [break][break] His forearm gave a brush along his pouch, the pad of his index finger running along its exterior. He'd adjusted every item inside to a meticulous degree. As Anotsu took a moment to shift his gaze east and west in search of other patrons in their arrival, he took up a statuesque position and measured the rhinoceros's gait. Every bit of information was critical. He would be remiss to underestimate this seemingly mythical creature. The Uchiha could only hope that the few townsfolk who had come to spectate would increase distance when the fighting began. [10:52 PM]
[attr="class","comabody"]"We missed the opportunity to arrive first."
A single step took me the better part of the distance toward my/thequarry but not into it, stepping upon the edge into a crouch. No, stepping foot into that deathtrap upon arrival seemed like the exact opposite of what anyone should do. I made sure to situate myself on the opposite side that of which individuals would typically arrive from civilization, directly opposite the typical travel lanes. From my crouched position I stood my full height - a looming 6'4", which made the creature nothing more than the overgrown haunch beast it was from my pedestal. Still, a whistle escaped my lips as I peered down upon it, "That's a big boy ain't it?".
I spoke my next sentences loudly enough that I supposed all could hear as I unsheathed my massive eight-foot Chidori Jumonji Yari"Now, now, I suppose I should impose a bit of order and rule seeing as this is officially Iwagakure Business, no? Great! I'm your host, Shoichi. Jounin of Iwagakure. Yes, yes write that down please. Everyone can get a turn handling the beast but I suggest we allow the little lambs first turns on sizing it up, objections? No? Great."
My eyes gazed down upon the little girl who decided to take it upon herself to attack the beast with little more than a cursory glance. Who's dull lamb was this? Tragic.
Itaru stood not far from Shoichi, his upper body unraveled of his upper garb which hung at his waist. His chest and back was exposed to the sun over the quarry, revealing a plethora of eyeballs looking around in every direction around his body. With his natural gaze and several eyes on his chest he watched the girl running into chaos with little regard for her own safety.
“Hmm… well, they say only fools rush in…” Itaru muttered, not necessarily to his platoon leader for fear of being too familiar with such a high ranking shinobi. He continued to gaze in each and every direction with the eyes that moved back and fourth on his body. He was a nobody here, but he was good for one thing at least… no one was going to sneak up on them easily. He’d call out any movements if anything got in his radar of being a potential threat to them.
He did keep his position back a bit behind the leader. So there was a small blind spot that he was sure was in the captain’s vision (and others too who might stand in front of him).
“There has to be someone backing her up... right? I don’t see them.”
Sharp like an edge of a samurai sword, the mental blade cut through flesh and bone. Though my mind's at peace, the worlds out of order, missing the inner heat, life gets colder
Among those who gathered was the newly felt presence of the handful of shinobi who hailed from Hidden Sound. At their head moved the newly-promoted Chunun, clad in the unzipped vest that marked him as a member of their village's military. They arrived in time to hear the declaration from the Jounin wielding the massive spear, to which Yusuke couldn't help but roll his eyes at in response.
He stepped ahead of the small formation at his rear, no more than a handful of shinobi at best. While he'd freely admit that the man held logic with his reasoning, the Chunin simply didn't like the tone that oozed out of the shinobi's lips. There was something a bit too cocky, to say the least about it. Regardless of their current location or the plethora of individuals who gathered to observe the beast, it was something that he naturally couldn't let go unaddressed.
Another step separated him further from his squad, his eyes glazing across those gathered before his visage settled onto the Jounin.
"At best, one of these little lambs might get hurt." He spoke up, making sure to project his voice loud enough to catch his attention. A finger jabbed in the direction of the unknown girl who thought it was a good idea to aggravate the beast from the jump.
"And at worst, one of those little lambs might just take your prize."
A grin settled onto his lips with that said, his overall demeanor suggesting that he was lukewarm to the idea of being told what to do by the Jounin. He had no intention of actually turning the situation hot, given that the man was a Jounin, and that their orders were to investigate and handle the situation accordingly. A diplomatic blunder wasn't quite worth the risk, nor was his recently acquired rank.
Nonetheless, he wasn't above defending his pride when subtle insults were being levied with no clear or intended target. Call it a fault of his youth, but it was what it was. In any case, Yusuke seemed poised to assert himself as the lead Shinobi behind him, and for now, they were playing it cool. The beast had yet to make a move, and until then, neither would they.

[attr="class","arubody"]Higa stretched out before leaning over the cliff edge, listening to Azuma's speech. It was more like background noise to him though. A small cloud of dust blew into the air as his backpack hit the ground, but before he could touch it, a new voice began yammering off in the distance. He looked up as his eyes stopped on the sound ninja droning on about 'lambs' weren't they hunting a rhinoceros?
He chalked it back up to background noise. Azuma could deal with that. His face turned towards Tokoro; the ever-shifting eyes intrigued him, although it was well beyond his capabilities to implement anything like that into Kishi. He mentally filed it away before turning back to the lump of wrapped tarp.
Higa's hands reached out, gingerly removing the tarp, unwrapping fold after careful fold as though it was his prized possession wrapped in silk. A jester was unveiled, dressed in violet and dark purple robe, shoes fashioned out of wood seamless with its body, long feathers sprouted from the crown wrapped around its face, a mannequin mask. There was the slight jingle of metal smacking against metal as it was finally freed and quickly stood up. A wide grin erupted on his face as to finally stress test Kishi. It quickly made its move, beginning to descend the cliff face.
While his strings were not at the level of being invisible yet, they would be hard to spot unless close by. Why not take the chance while everyone was distracted, including the rhino, of course. It was easy to stop if anything new happened.
It was a mission far from home, but one she accepted immediately. Her family was chomping at the bit the moment news of some grand beast appearing caught wind in their household. Though she had little interest in such a thing as summons and taming, her family wouldn’t let it go, even threatening to force Hoshiko to come along. The moment she was brought into this, Aiko had to accept the burden.[break][break]
As her superior found his place at the arena’s edge, Aiko was only a few steps behind, standing to his side, surveying the land. Dawning her proper uniform, but equipped for a storm, the Hyuga heiress was clearly prepared for the situation. Her crossbow tightly mounted to her arm, her arrows secure to her hip. Endlessly long purple hair was pulled back into tight braids, spun into a tight bun, to protect it all. She eyed their surroundings warily, adjusting the scarf that protected her mouth with a hint of anxiousness.[break][break]
“... There are many more showing up than I expected. Looks as though someone is already trying to start something” she quietly remarked, looking up to the jonin beside her. Though her words were then drowned out by some other jonin announcing himself the host of the occasion, and suggesting little lambs be the first to try their hand at handling the beast. Aiko didn’t bat much of an eye at it, though her gaze turned towards those around whom she was sure would feel… challenged by such a declaration.
[break][break]
TLDR: Arrived. Standing next to Anotsu. Keeping an eye out for others who may get close.
"A strong presence from the Hidden Stone."[break][break]
The words drift in from somewhere behind the pair as Koma closed in on them, steps falling soft and slow against the grit of open soil. With so many of those gathered standing at the sidelines in observation, the genin proved to be in nothing in a rush, sandals guiding him to stand neatly beside the taller figure of the his platoon's jonin.[break][break]
"This is... the tsunami?"[break][break]
It wasn't often that his voice lilt with such inflection. His tone trailed off in airy wonder as he fold his arms even across his chest, a mild furrow hinted in his brows as his gaze center itself for the breathing boulder resting within the quarry's bowl.[break][break]
He was dressed in the usual garb of a Rain shinobi, the near black hue of his jumpsuit accented by stark white fabric along his sides, large round hat drawn back to rest against his shoulders. With the nation's symbol carved into the metal of the hitai ate strapped about his arm, his association should be unquestionable. Despite the matter of his trespassing, he seemed to be at ease, perfectly comfortable in perching himself alongside his companions.[break][break]
His eyes were soon to cast themselves sideward. He was making note of their surroundings, taking stock of any potential threats or advantages that might present themselves during the process of their "investigation."

[attr="class","pwfbody"] Tired red hues crease ever so slightly, white brows pinching. That was his dull pup going off. In all honestly, Kegawa had been slow to follow after the Uchiha but at the very least he still followed. With Kakimaru having sniffed the girl's trail, the Jonin had no problem following at a leisurely pace. His right arm slid into the fold of his kimono as he gazed down at the group that had accumulated for the great hunt of the Summon. His red hues carefully analyzing all those present before finally focusing upon his pup.[break][break]
❝ Kakimaru! Retrieve our pup before she gets herself hurt. ❞ he commands his partner. The orange pelted ninken gave a small bark in acknowledgment as he rushed forward in a skulking manner. His shoulders hunched as he moved closely along the ground, snaking between people until he found himself behind the young girl. Without warning, he rises to his towering stature to gently grab at the back of the girl's clothing. Aiming to pick her up and start trotting right back over to his partner, away from the Rhino that might skewer the poor child. Any resistance to his action would only be met with patience continued attempts to grab at her clothing to pull her away.[break][break]
Kegawa jumps down from his spot, moving to mingle with the others. Glancing over to a random person to let out a small chuckle, his lips rising into a lopsided smile. ❝ Kids~ ❞[break][break]
tldr; kegawa arrives late. sends kakimaru to attempt to retrieve Kureiru Uchiha from the fray.[break][break]
Gentle steps guide themselves to the side of their compatriots. Somber silver eyes searching out their forms carefully before settling towards the faces of other unfamiliar ones. Her arms rested comfortably at her side, clothed in the typical Hidden Rain shinobi attire. Her headband was fastened to the bicep of her left arm, glistening under the sunlight.[break][break]
The girl didn't seem to sure about poking at such a dangerous creature, but with so many people gathered she supposed that it would be possible to accomplish. Her silver eyes glanced to her elder sister, watching and listening to the woman's words before switching to Koma. Purple lashes slowly fluttered close before opening back up to look forward. She would do her part to assist in this endeavor, waiting for the call of her Jonin to tell them when they could go forward. At the present, attaining information was the most important thing. Forming two fingers before her features, she focused on the chakra veins within her face. They flared to life as they emerged at the surface of her skin, her Byakugan activating. With it, she examined all those present and then towards the direction of the 'Tsunami.'
While everyone gathered around the edge of the arena, Daichi had already been crouched by the edge for some time. For once he was quiet, looking on in quiet contemplation as he tried to tune in to the various voices chiming in on the situation. But at the end of the day, the only ones that mattered was the voice of his sensei and the rest of the team, right? But even then, he wasn't paying too close attention. His gaze was focused on the hulking creature in the center of the pit. And for a split second, he could swear that thing made eye contact with him.[break][break]
...Nah. No way. Must've been his imagination. He shook his head as he turned toward the rest of the team that had gathered up, dull grey eyes flicking between each one of them. And of course, none of them were having any strong emotional reaction to this whole thing. No fear, no excitement. Just a bunch of shinobi looking at their next target like it was any other day. At least that was the impression he was getting. "Sir? I uh... I've been thinking." Legs extended as he corrected his posture, eyes turning back to their quarry as he continued speaking.[break][break]
"This...thing here. It's probably scared, right? I mean, it's got a whole army of shinobi gathering around where it was trying to sleep. I don't know if we'll get a chance but...I dunno. I think we might be better off trying to talk to it? Maybe soothe it a bit instead of just jumpin' straight to violence." As he spoke, he would tug on the headband bearing the village symbol that was hanging from his neck, still feeling a bit uneasy about the creature despite his suggestion of a peaceful resolution. "N-not like I'm scared to fight it or anything. I'm pretty sure we could take this thing even without all this backup. But still..." Now was probably a bad time to mention he didn't like hurting animals, huh?
( OOC: Might as well sign up for the lottery while I'm at it )
❝ Gettin' too old for this, slowpoke? ❞[break][break]
A teasing grin had snuck its way to the woman's face, the brattish twist of her lips peeled to bare the full of her pearly whites. The shinobi showed no difficulty in darting across the terrain, appearing to pay little attention to what lie ahead as her frost-hued stare remain locked toward the canine sprinting along at her side. The stern browed dog's eyes set decidedly forward, not so much as an ear turned in her direction. Lips sagging at his maw in a doggish frown, he was clearly doing his best to ignore his partner, but given her relentless stare he opt to offer a soft ' WUFF ' of dismissal.[break][break]
Kyuu could only laugh, clearly taking the situation lightly. Finally, her gaze set forward, smile still beamed bright on her features as she slowed her pace to an easy jog, bringing her stride right in alongside the familiar presence of her favorite big brother. Kegawa.[break][break]
❝ Find the kid? ❞[break][break]
The words blurt graceless from her lips as she base her hands at her hips, the curious sparkle of her eye drawn over the terrain before catching sight of the dog trying to drag lil' Kureiru out of harm's way. The sight brought her to blink, gaze sticking toward the leathery boulder that had brought everyone there. Bowing herself forward, hands still anchored at her hips, she stared on in amazement, pursing her lips to sound out with an awed whistle.[break][break]
❝ Damn. You found more than just the little one, huh? ❞[break][break]
Ginmaru settled on his haunches at the woman's side, the line of his lips twitching faintly as a quiet growl resonate in his chest. Hackles raised to bristle about the scruff of his neck and shoulders, his gaze locked itself sharp for the rhinoceros' form, wary of its presence.
This sort of trip wasn't common. Wandering outside of one's village was dangerous but walking straight into the enemy territory was on a completely different level. Anotsu and Mai were Jounin capable of looking after themselves. The rest of the platoon, however, was certainly not ready for this level of exposure. That said, because war was always right around the corner, imparting as much knowledge as possible into the minds of young shinobi within the shortest amount of time was, simply put, a necessity, and so this operation was justified, so to speak. It didn't change the fact that the young Aburame was as worried for them as a mother would be for her own children, but if the Kazekage believed Anotsu and her were enough to look after them, knowing her, she was probably right. [break][break] "You know, Anotsu-san, I got to admit I am kind of jealous." With a body flicker, Mai appeared close to the Uchiha and the rest of the rain squad. Some might say inappropriately close, as if she was formally a part of their platoon. "You've gathered such a fine crew it almost doesn't feel fair. I wonder if the Kage is playing favorites again..." [break][break] All the genin and chunin under their care were, as far as she knew, very capable and promising. But, out of all of them, the one who had inspired this comment was no other than Daichi Konishi who, despite his apparent naivety, proved to be capable of thinking outside the box. Perhaps other members had already reached a similar conclusion, but he was the first one to voice it, so she had to give credit where it was due. [break][break] Moving on, the Aburame quietly completed a series of hand-seals, compelling a number of bugs within her body to discretely leave their haven in order to do her bidding. With a prudent distance standing between them and the other groups, and Anotsu's platoon serving as additional cover, it was safe to say that the activation of such technique, as well as its nature, probably went unnoticed to agents that did not belong to the Hidden Rain. [break][break] "Ara, is that how the Hidden Stone handles things?" Distancing herself from her comrades just a little in order to speak louder without leaving them deaf, Mai didn't waste an opportunity to 'throw some dirt' at one of Iwagakure's jounin, who branded himself the host. "Essentially asking underclassmen to tackle a challenge before yourself... As a senior, shouldn't you lead by example?"
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]Let's do some trash-talking while we're here.
