[attr="class","APP3"]“Oh no!” a voice screeched as Junko bolted across the room towards the bell. A grotesque pig nosed bat the size of a small child had a hold of the rope that made the bell ring, and it quickly let go and began fluttering upwards to try to get away from her. In a panic, the fuzzy brown bat circled around the ceiling near where the scroll was left on the ground at the staircase. More clearly visible now that her eyes had adjusted, the scroll was…
Anotsu , Kikuyu, and Chinetsu had entered and made their way up the stairs towards the sound of the chiming bell. When the fearless Jounin reached down to pick up the scroll in the dark, there was a sound of a fuse lighting and a sudden flash followed by a boom. With the reflexes of a Jounin, the explosive tag likely hadn’t managed to directly impact his hand, but wooden shrapnel would unavoidably pepper the group. Enough to cause minor injuries and breaks in the skin.
Junko would witness the smoke of the small explosion that would make it difficult to see exactly who it was. The sound put the cowardly bat circling around the bell into a bigger panic, causing it to crash into the walls several times as it fluttered around in confusion. Meanwhile, at the well of the shrine where Izumi and Hideyoshi were gathered, another genin there had already pushed ahead and was drawing water into the bucket. The water that came up looked off. It had a dark murky hue to it and a chromatic sheen to the surface… closer inspection would reveal it to be contaminated with oil! The genin in a hidden stone head band who had gathered it looked at it funny, and then peered at Izumi and Hide. “Does that look right?”
On the eastern side of town, if Benkei were to turn he would find that the Inuzuka had fallen behind. There was little time for his dread, as he found himself alone in a narrow corridor of buildings. From the roof tops, there was a sudden appearance of a woman with black hair that flicked a sleeved wrist forward at him. Three senbon aimed for his right thigh. Almost as soon as she threw it, she darted out of his field of view. If he listened carefully, he would hear her feet landing on a different rooftop nearby.
OOC: Anotsu triggered a booby trap- only minor injuries. The summoner was not at the bell, looks like he left a bat as a distraction. There is something wrong with the well water at the shrine...
Good point. I am going to approve this, we don't want straight up absorption of chakra but this comes a bit closer to what barrier ninjutsu does with stopping attacks. It is a keikkei genkai so while I think it is a bit on the stronger end I don't think it'll break things.
As far as more enhancements I'd say no. The oni clan's main thing is that they get multiple enhancements so I don't want to make them obsolete.
The long and short of this overhaul is to make sure each character gets a "high" skill for their rank. No more 5 rookies. Wanderer 1 was left alone as it already has a niche as a great pick for advanced release. Wanderer 2 was buffed a little. We'll make sure everyone is fairly adjusted if we go with this. Vote to let us know if you would find this favorable to the current start.
Tonight we have went through and worked out a more standardized version of our system that simplified our process a bit so that we could release harder targets without explaining a lot of algebra to everyone. We'd like to get some participation in the poll above (one vote per member) to see how you feel about it in comparison to the current progression system.

Key wickets. Starting lower ranks gives you an advantage at gaining versatility as you have a better rate on getting things up to veteran.
The experience of master and grand master is the same for everyone. This means jounin aren't totally chumped out by the discount of the lower ranks because of their head start.
There is room for give or take on the post requirements a little, the number is a guideline for you to know when you are ready to get a thing.
[attr="class","APP3"] Progression in learning new proficiencies are made by turning in completed or archived threads. Each post has a value based on the type of thread that is being turned in. Posts are weighted depending on thread activity. Throughout this thread the word upgrade is used, which also includes adding new proficiencies.
Event Posts/Staffed Missions For every two posts made, three posts are removed from your total requirements (x1.5 multiplier).
Player-Run Missions For every five posts made, six posts are removed from your total requirements (x1.2 multiplier).
General Threads Training, socials, etc fall under this catagory and are weighted regularly (x1 multiplier).
Solo Threads It takes three solo posts to equal one regular post towards requirements to upgrade (x.33 multiplier).
Dynamic Threads Threads that shift between one thing or another are weighted in sections. Say an event ended and two players stuck around to socialize for a page or so after, those posts would be scored as general. If after that one person stuck around in the thread and wrote solo posts, they would only be awarded the solo thread rate.
Deductions
Risk Deduction: -5 posts required for each submitted thread involving a fight to the death that your character survived against another member's character of a staff NPC. This can only be claimed when a death occurs to the opposition side (limit one claim per event/staff led mission).
Patience Deduction: -10 posts from requirements for each month since the last upgrade occured. (Can accumulate during periods of inactivity but it does not roll over to the next upgrade, as long as the character has been upgraded at least once).
Diversity Deduction: -10 posts from requirements if at least 3 characters belonging to other members are involved across all submitted threads.
Upgrading and adding new proficiencies (Rookie-Veteran) Genin: 35 posts -deductions + 5 for each prior approved upgrade. Chunin*: 55 posts -deductions + 10 for each prior approved upgrade. *You may substitute shurikenjutsu with another form of bukijutsu if desired.
One thing I missed, when you have 5 proficiencies starting out as a genin each of the starts at rookie, but your description was fine. Genjutsu has 3 types to choose from.
Based on your description I assume her genjutsu trigger is based on scent so I went ahead and just assigned what made sense(olfactory). I'm going to leave the thread open for you for a bit in case that doesn't work for you and you want to edit//if you do just notify again. As long as that is good though, you are approved and can start roleplaying and i'll move this app once you make your first IC post.
