[Old History]
Having been born into a family of artists, Ito has a natural love for art, creativity, and beautiful things. The kunoichi was raised by two loving, soft-hearted artists who doted on their three children. Ito’s parents taught them that their art was a reflection of themselves and the world around them, and that they must use the family’s unique ninjutsu, Living Art jutsu, to protect what they loved. Despite all this, Ito was unlike her family members. While her family sketched delicate animals and brought watercolour landscapes to life, Ito drew twisted chimeras and painted scenes of tragedy. When questioned, Ito would simply say she was doing as they said: painting a reflection of the world.
No matter how it transpired, Ito’s descent from curious child to disconcertingly dark-minded kuniochi was not something her family was able to shake her out of. Despite Ito’s “strangeness”, the Murakamis simply saw her as an artist exploring her own style. However, at age twenty, Ito left behind her family, village, a the corpse of her youngest sister. The scene held heavy implications of Ito’s Living Art jutsu having been used to do the deed, leaving the Murakamis with no other possible explanation for what occurred that night.
Not long after the murder of her sister, Ito joined the Akatsuki; having been in touch with Masaji Dokujima prior to the incident. During her time with the Akatsuki, Ito altered her appearance by shaving her eyebrows off, donning a partial mask, growing out her hair, and having her eye colour altered by Kageyoshi Ieda. While Ito has always wanted to explore her art fully, spending a year working and living alongside the Akatsuki has motivated her to leave behind the worries often burdened upon her by family, friends, and other ninja in regards to such. Restriction only stifles possibilities.

[Updated History]
It’s hard to fathom why Ito threw her previous life away. She was born into a family of artists with two loving, soft-hearted ninja parents who doted on their three children. The Murakami matriarch and patriarch taught their children that their art was a reflection of themselves and the world around them, and that they must use the family’s unique ninjutsu-- Living Art-- to protect what they loved. Ito even had a renowned and well-beloved Hidden Rain shinobi as her teacher: Enki Yamamoto.
However, Ito was unlike her family members. While her family sketched delicate animals and brought watercolour landscapes to life, Ito drew twisted chimeras and painted scenes of tragedy. When questioned, she would simply say she was doing as they said: painting a reflection of the world. Ito’s descent from curious child to dark-minded kuniochi was not something her family or teacher was able to shake her out of.
Ito simply left the village one night without a word, leaving behind the body of her younger sister. The scene bore obvious evidence of Ito’s Living Art jutsu having been used to do the deed, leaving the Murakamis with no other explanation for what occurred that night, but with no reason why.

A Thousand Cuts [Bukijutsu | Apprentice]
Ito is not fond of close quarters fighting but recognizes its inevitability, thus she chose to focus on Bukijutsu. Ito likes to fight on the safer side and practices a style of swordplay that involves evasiveness, parrying, and counterattacks over head-on strikes.
Not the Hands [Taijutsu | Apprentice]
Balking at the idea of smashing her artists' hands into another, Ito resisted learning taijutsu for a long time as a young kunoichi. While her distaste of it remains to this day, she has rightly learned that taijutsu is a ninja's last line of defense. To suit the art to herself, Ito has learned a style of taijutsu that involves using her hands as little as possible. Like her bukijutsu, it places an emphasis on countering with a unique focus on kicks, kneeing, and elbowing over punches.

A Thousand Little Cuts [Kenjutsu | Apprentice]
Kenjutsu is the bridge that allows Ito to comfortably cross into the realm of physical, close quarters fighting; all she needed was a tool in hand, not unlike a paintbrush. While Enki Yamamoto was her taijutsu teacher in another life, Ito has applied his lessons to her kenjutsu style. In an effort to confuse her opponents, her movements bear little rhythm all the while Ito searches for surgical counter strikes.
Not the Hands [Taijutsu | Apprentice]
Balking at the idea of smashing her artists' hands into anyone, Ito resisted learning taijutsu for a long time as a young kunoichi. Thankfully, her parents found her the perfect teacher to remedy this: Enki Yamamoto. Known for his taijutsu style that placed an emphasis on using other body parts over hands, Ito was much more comfortable learning this style. Now when forced into an unarmed, short-ranged fight, Ito utilizes the unorthodox movements of Enki's style in order to confuse her opponents and keep herself safe.
