red bird
He’s heading to the altar, but for what he will not say.
The path is lit with skeletons and candles along the way.
“Shush,” he says, “they’ll hear us, you creaking bones of mine.”
I used you poorly in youth, and with that, there comes a fine.
Those questions left unanswered are now better buried deep
Thrown away with other treasures like the promises I keep.
The echoes of the cardinals sing carols in his head
Once white as winter tears, the world must suit him better red.
Dried from bitter seasons and whips with splintered ends,
Breezes come and go just as fast as numbered friends.
There’s never any meaning to initials scarred on bark
Any fool can carve an x, or put an arrow through a heart.
Regret has no end for those who choose to never see.
“How bad I’d love to fall asleep beneath a willow tree.”
Appearance
Full ImageHeight: 176cm (5'9")
Weight: 76kg (167 lbs)
Jin only barely resembles others from the Uchiha clan. His hair is muddied with the genes of his mother and thus lighter in color than the typical Uchiha black. More dark bronze in color, this is something that sets him apart from most of his clansmen due to his half-Uchiha lineage. His hair is unruly and a bit on the long side, hanging in his face and down the back of his neck in an unmanageable fashion. In addition to his lighter hair, Jin's eye color is also a bit out of the ordinary. Beautiful, still, in their own right, a pair of amber orbs with golden streaks carry the weight of his harsh training. Perfectly positioned under bushy brows, his eyes are almost unapproachable as they stare back with a typical skeptical gaze.
Due to his years of training in the harsh climates of the desert, Jin's skin is sun-kissed and greatly reflects his time in the desert sands. His training has left him toned and his physique matches his dedication to the ninja arts, though his awkward balance in tone reflects his still aging body. Tall and chiseled, Jin isn't hard to look at though he often hides it under baggy and airy clothes to keep the heat from the sun away.
What stands out most with Jin is his rather large tattoo, something quite rare for someone his age. The black ink depicts a dragon slithering up his arm starting at his wrist and extending to his shoulder blade. Its intricate design is often brought up in conversation as there aren't many shinobi with tattoos wandering around. The design itself is very personal to Jin, having gotten it when he was just a boy from a dear friend who has since passed.
In addition to his tattoo, Jin possesses quite a few nicks from his time as a shinobi. Scars are patterned here and there, most often caused by some sort of blade. Most notable is a deep five-inch scar on the left side of his abdomen and a rather large burn scar on his right shin that extends to his lower thigh. He has no feeling over on the burn area.
Training: Given the environment he was raised in, Jin wears the most comfortable clothes he can manage. Typically seen with a simple white layered top and baggy dark grey pants held up with a purple scarf. The scarf is tied tight around a red cloth with golden tattered ends at his belt line. In addition, he has six chained leather pads hanging at his pelt to help protect his thighs and groin. Jin will sometimes wear a black jacket left unbuttoned with golden accents and red cuffs. At his neck is an heirloom of a necklace given to him by his mentor.
Casual: Much of his business casual clothes are unneeded when he's simply lounging around. Jin will most often be wearing a simple white layered top and a pair of baggy dark gray pants and black shoes.
Missions: His normal attire wouldn't work well on missions and with slight adjustments, he is still able to remain comfortable while still getting the most out of his attire. Jin chooses to represent his clan and village by wearing a traditional khaki shinobi flak jacket. The Uchiha symbol is embroidered onto the back and his village symbol on the left sleeve in place of a headband. He chooses to still wear his dark gray pants held up by the purple scarf, red cloth, and leather padding.
Persona
Opinionated: Jin is a rather outspoken individual. He isn't afraid to open his mouth and his filter is nearly nonexistent. Some may describe him as crass, but when he says something, he means it and there's usually a logical and well-deserved reason behind his approach. His loud and unfiltered mouth often grabs him more attention than is needed, and not the good attention either.
Skeptical: As perceptive as he is, Jin has a difficult time opening up to others with more personal matters. He's an open book with less personal topics though and easily comfortable with small talk. Jin is hard to pry open, something that works well with his rank as a Shinobi.
Loyal: Despite being a hard man to get to know, for those who have the luxury they will know nothing but undying loyalty. The man will stand by you in any situation, so long as it's warranted. Those who have earned his trust are unlikely to lose it over something small. However, if he believes wholeheartedly that you've changed to something undeserving, he can quickly change his perspective.
Quick Witted: A man of high intelligence, Jin comes with a knack for sarcasm and witty responses. He's quick on his feet and his tongue. Jin likes to have a good laugh and oftentimes those laughs come from puns and overly sarcastic replies. Add a little bit of self-deprecation and he's the perfect recipe for disaster.
Empathetic: While he might not always show it, Jin is overly empathetic. It's something he has learned as a Shinobi to be able to turn off and on. You won't get a boohoo from him while out on missions, but in the right setting he's the perfect shoulder to cry on and his ear is always available.
Stubborn: Jin is both hard and hot headed. Once he has his mind set on something, there's little that anyone can do to sway him away from his goal. He can be persuasive at times and has a very charismatic charm despite his crass ways. He will use whatever means necessary to persuade someone to his side of things so long as he believes it is the right thing.
StrengthsJin has always had innate fineness when it came to fighting. Strategy comes easily to him, almost second nature. In a game of chess, Jin is always someone you will need to watch out for and he carries that into the battlefield. Always thinking ten steps ahead of everyone else, Jin isn't someone to be trifled with. He will play dirty if it means defending what he believes in.
WeaknessesJin's crass behavior doesn't bode well with others around him, and it's earned him quite the reputation. He is unapproachable to those who aren't familiar with him and it can make teaming up with him difficult. Jin likes to fight, but he's not the best when it comes to grouping with people he doesn't know. Thankfully, as he's gotten older, he's more familiar with those around him and who he is required to group with. He doesn't make friends easily and that can make it hard to rally with him.
LikesDespite what many might think, Jin isn't a hard person to please. Anything from kind words to a small act of kindness is enough to keep him going for a long time. Jin has a major sweet tooth and typically gravitates towards fruits or sweet and sour candies. He enjoys being outdoors and keeps himself busy by stacking missions and training. Outside of his duties as a shinobi, Jin is quite knowledgeable in politics and enjoys a good conversation with an open mind. He also has a soft spot for birds.
DislikesThere's always a good and bad side to politics and it's something Jin doesn't like to participate in. He knows that it comes with the territory. He will dodge a conversation with someone who isn't open minded and hates when people try to throw their beliefs on others. As opinionated as he is, he also realizes there is a limit to comfort in the topic for others. Aside from politics, Jin dislikes bitter tasting food, cold weather, and cats.
Best MemoryJin has very fond memories of his times training with Harukei. Despite it being a harsh and sometimes brutal time in his life, his bond with Harukei was unlike any other he had ever developed. After the bear attack, Jin saw Harukei as a father figure and by giving JIn the gift of the necklace, Jin saw a side of someone he thought he would never relate to. It is a gift that he often treasures and his memory of obtaining it has changed him in more ways than one.
HabitsJin is a creature of habit when it comes to training regimes and daily activities. He gets up at the same time every day and will pace his steps to arrive somewhere precisely five minutes before the scheduled time. Most others won't notice this, but he goes out of his way to get it done. Call it OCD or just a random quirk of his, but he takes being on time more seriously than most others.
DreamsJin aspires to be nothing more than he is. He's more of an in-the-moment kind of guy. His dreams are more so achievements than anything. Jin wants only to be stable enough to get by, wanting to live a modest and minimal lifestyle and just not die in the process of obtaining it.
FearsJin's biggest fear is loss. Loss of those around him, loss of his own identity, loss of his home. It's something he thinks of quite often and it's not as irrational of a fear as most might think. To the Uchiha clan, this loss can be a way in and an opportunity to gain extraordinary power. Jin wants to keep things the way they are, and would do almost anything to ensure that his passions stay safe even at the cost of obtaining more power.
HobbiesJin can be lazy at times. Nothing beats just sitting out on the porch and feeling the sun hit his face. He loves watching the clouds while talking about everything or nothing. Most of his time is spent training or on missions, which leaves him little time to do much else outside of resting and recovering.
The Red Bird
There are countless ruins and charred trees and yet people would walk atop diamonds to reduce them to ashes. I would take Pompeii over El Dorado. There is so much more to learn from pain than perfection.
