Fūinjutsu [Journeyman]: Over the years, Jun has picked up some sealing techniques for utility and convenience. This ability allows him to carry a large amount of arrows, extra weapons, and other common tools without compromising his ability to move stealthily. He is able to affect an area with a single arrow by attaching a scroll with additional arrows sealed inside. He is also able to activate explosive tags from a distance.

[attr="class","torchic-post"] Jun stumbled into the tree line, vanishing from sight, as soon as the ground began to tremble beneath them. He watched from the shadows of the canopy as a strange woman seemed to command the dead. Was this the power of the empire? [break][break]
He couldn’t help but imagine his children packaged neatly in boxes of their own as he witnessed the fate of Shoichi’s body. [break][break]
Stay focused. He gritted his teeth as he recalled Makoto’s lack of a satisfying response. There was no point worrying about his family now so he did his best to push such distractions aside and heed his fellow Jounin’s advice. He’d have time enough to find Hideyoshi after the trio survived this encounter.[break][break]
Jun notched an arrow and waited for an opening to present itself as Makoto charged past the shambling corpses. He wasn’t certain what the dark woman wanted with the hostages but it didn’t seem as if she were prepared to offer them as bargaining chips. He’d release his arrow aimed to pierce center-palm on the woman's outstretched hand with the hopes of pinning it to the skull of the doomed Aburame and rendering her unable to defend against Makoto and her companions. [break][break]
He’d leap across the branches to avoid anything drawn towards his position before attempting to hide once again.
[attr="class","torchic-lyrics"]My Son & My Daughter
[attr="class","torchic-post"] Jun half-expected his son to tease him for asking. He wasn’t expecting how readily the two would begin to assist him and he felt an ache of pride in his chest that he was their father. Still, as helpful as they were both being he… didn’t really understand what they wanted him to do. It was all stuff he’d heard before and he supposed it made sense in its own way. [break][break]
“Ok. Just give me a second.” Jun took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He tried his best to feel his chakra flowing through him; a second turned into thirty and all he felt was silly. Jun cleared his throat. [break][break]
Imagine. He’d said. [break][break]
Maybe imagining it was good enough. The jounin hung onto the railing and dabbed his toe against the smooth surface of the water. It went straight through causing Jun to recoil. That didn’t seem quite right. [break][break]
He’d try again though, this time he’d imagine his chakra like a sunset orange liquid light flowing through his veins like blood. He imagined himself walking out across the water to Hideyoshi. He was certain it would work this time. Jun stepped out and it felt solid so he let go of the rail and put his full weight on the surface of the water. [break][break] It seemed for a fraction of a second as though he might stay afloat but his excitement was short lived as he plunged into the chilly morning river. He came up coughing and sputtering.
[attr="class","torchic-post"] Jun moved to follow as Makoto took the lead, waiting patiently as she checked for traps hidden among the shadows and grime. He would normally insist on completing such a task himself or at least double checking but he trusted Makoto’s nose almost as much as his own eyes. She crawled along ahead of him and it wasn’t long before he had to drop down onto his hands as well. They crouched together under the grate and again he waited while she took a quick peek into the room above. [break][break]
One enemy nearby. [break][break]
Jun smirked, “It’s always a pleasure to watch you work.” He supposed they could try to wait it out. He couldn’t complain about the company and it was possible the shinobi in the storage area would find what he was looking for and simply move on. It was also possible that he wouldn’t or that they’d have to fight him later. It seemed a shame to miss out on the opportunity to take out a straggler.[break][break]
He drew a long knife from his boot and held it between his teeth while he lifted up the metal grate and slid it to the side. He knew the general direction Makoto had been looking before so he pulled himself up onto the ground level and weaving his way through the various crates he found himself behind an unfortunate Cloud ninja. He listened for any sign of others in the room and when he was certain the man was alone and preoccupied, Jun flickered behind him, placing a hand over his mouth and ending it mercifully quick. [break][break]
He lowered the body to the floor and went to offer Makoto a hand up into the storage room. He knew she didn’t need his help but it might be a tricky task for a ninken.
[attr="class","torchic-post"] Jun’s eyes narrowed at the wounded assassin as she ran off into the woods some ways away. He’d hit something solid; not as fragile as a clone. At hearing something of a struggle nearby he would notch another arrow and shoot down at the right eye of the zombie engaged with Zazou. He gave a nod of appreciation to his current teammate. “That’s twice you’ve-” [break][break]
He ducked down as movement came from all sides, a fresh wave of undead swarming the battlefield at the worst possible time. Jun noticed the fallen jounin being dragged away and popped out from behind cover just long enough to fire an arrow at one of the zombies that had grabbed the man. He didn’t know how the Empire’s dark magic worked but he didn’t want to end up fighting defeated members of the alliance brought back from the dead. The thought sent a chill down his spine. [break][break]
Just then, reinforcements arrived and he was relieved to hear a familiar voice leading the charge. He ran alongside her as she passed their position. He had so many questions. What news did she bring? Where were they headed? There were probably a million things he hoped Makoto could tell him but there was only one that sprung to his tongue, “Hide- Have you seen him?” [break][break]
Jun would listen to whatever Makoto had to say but would point out a trail of blood as they approached the place where he had last seen the assassin. “We can’t let her get away… she’s not like the others.”
[attr="class","torchic-lyrics"]My Son & My Daughter
[attr="class","torchic-post"] A tension Jun didn’t recognize until it was lifted from his shoulders seemed to evaporate as his daughter turned to look at him, heeding his words of caution. He smiled at her warmly. He was glad to see he still held enough respect in her eyes to warrant at least a moment of hesitation. He was therefore caught off guard by Hide’s sudden decision to drag his sister into the river almost as if out of spite. [break][break]
Jun had thrown off his jacket and had one foot up on the railing before the splash had settled. He was fully prepared to leap in after them when Hideyoshi popped up to the surface of the water pulling Eri up with him. The jounin blinked. Right. That was something they could both do… still, it probably felt colder on the surface where the wind could get at them than it had been in the water.[break][break]
He would have loved nothing more than to accept his daughter's invitation to walk out to his children, closing the distance both physically and metaphorically. But he could not. Or rather he did not know how. This has always been a sore spot for Jun, ever since his days of the academy he'd struggled with molding chakra. In the end he had decided to focus on mundane abilities, pushing his body to its physical limits rather than focusing on spiritual energy or whatever. [break][break]
Therefore, his first instinct was to scold his children. To demand that they return to the boat where it was safe. Where he felt safe. And where he wouldn't have to admit the shameful truth but that was not why he was here and he pushed his frustration to the side for the first time in a long time. [break][break]
He’d given up on ninjutsu so long ago that his general assumption was that he was not capable of such things but seeing both of his children walking on water made him wonder if they hadn't inherited it from his side of the family. It had been decades since his last attempt at doing something like this and looking down at the rippling surface of the water he noted that it seemed far less solid than his children made it look. [break][break]
He didn’t even know where to start with this. He looked back at Hideyoshi with a strange look on his face… one of hesitation and fear or maybe just awkwardness. At the risk of sounding silly he climbed out to the edge, almost sitting on the railing while his feet dangled just above the water. “Will you teach me?”
[attr="class","torchic-lyrics"]My Son & My Daughter
[attr="class","torchic-post"] That had gone just about as well as he’d expected. In other words... horrible. Jun’s jaw tightened at his son’s response and his fist clenched tight around the oar. Still, he said nothing. Just stared at his son. The boy was just like his mother; predictably and infuriatingly quarrelsome. He was determined not to drive his son away like he had his former wife. He was determined to try. Really try. But it wasn’t easy for him. Weren't fathers entitled to some modicum of admiration or even just basic courtesy? [break][break]
He watched as his son turned his attention to Erika and their playful exchange left him envious. He couldn’t resent the sibling’s closeness. There were many times he wished he’d had a better connection with his lamented brother. Maybe if he’d ever stopped to consider the consequences of his actions instead of taking every opportunity that presented itself. He never was very good at connecting with people beyond the superficial.[break][break]
He took a small step forward as Erika led her brother towards the edge with talk of swimming. “Now... Shouldn't we wait until the sun's a little higher? I don't want you two catching a cold.”
[attr="class","torchic-lyrics"]My Son & My Daughter
[attr="class","torchic-post"] It was early morning and a heavy marine layer billowed off the glistening surface of the water which broke and parted for a lavish wooden boat. A string of paper lanterns lined the cabin and a middle-aged man with red hair stood statuesque at the stern holding a single long oar. [break][break]
Maybe it had been a gauche purchase... Maybe he was overcompensating for being too protective or too distant. The price tag would have made his own father blanch but Jun was no simple fisherman. His children were the light of his life and he’d spent far too long in the shadows. They deserved a boat fit for a Daimyo, no doubt about it. Why shouldn’t he spoil his children? He had the means.[break][break]
Jun cleared his throat, breaking the silence and hopefully drawing the attention of his progeny. “How is your training coming along?”[break][break]
Oof. Jun winced internally. The point of this outing was to spend some quality time with Erika and Hideyoshi and here he was talking about work again.
[attr="class","torchic-post"]“We’ll just have to be extra careful then.” Jun smirked in response to her warning about potential traps and remained in place as his fellow jounin’s competitive edge shined through sharp teeth. He thought it best to lower expectations well in advance since the sable-haired vixen was obviously the quicker of the pair. “I’m sure I’m not as light as you, Makoto, but I do alright.” [break][break]
He took off after the woman at a slower pace, weaving through the shadows without leaving so much as a blade of grass out of place. It didn’t take long for the keen senses of Makoto’s ninken to locate the access point he’d been hoping for. Jun looked at the rusted bars and then down at the ninken. Good dog. He’d think with a slight grin as he extended an open palm towards the dog. If it seemed responsive, he’d give it a little scratch behind the ears. [break][break]
“It’s easy to overlook something like this, especially when looking for a temporary encampment. Best to keep our eyes open though, just in case.” The bars were simple enough to break. Jun pulled a cats paw crowbar from a compartment in his vest and muffled the sound with a bandana. [break][break]
“Ladies first?” He offered, stepping aside and gesturing towards the newly made opening.
[attr="class","torchic-post"] Jun’s eyes narrowed as he craned his neck to look around one of the many trees that still stood between his hand and the aforementioned squad. He let out a sigh, “I don’t suppose the others are dumb enough to come running outside to treat their wounded?” It wasn’t really a question and it didn’t sound like one when he said it but he needed some way to express his annoyance at the Cloud Shinobi hadn’t laid down and died already. A frontal attack would only make things harder when the others hunkered down inside the fortress. [break][break]
“It’ll be better for them and quicker for us if they don’t know we’re here until…” The until hung in the air for a moment as Jun trailed off. He didn’t think the rest needed to be said aloud. They’d find out soon enough if the shinobi on the other side could be left alive or not and the pair of Jounin would do whatever needed to be done. Thoughts of his own children would have brought with them a wave of guilt if he were not so focused on returning to them in one piece. Join the hunt or become the prey; that was the life of a ninja.[break][break]
“We could move around to the back. There may be a secondary entrance we’ve not seen.”
[attr="class","torchic-post"] By the time Jun was in position, the woman had already obscured the area making it impossible to guess which clone was the real assassin. However, it was clear as the three versions emerged from the shadows to attack that he would need to take this opportunity to eliminate one of them. He couldn’t allow another jounin to be taken off the battlefield. [break][break]
Jun was a big proponent of a sure thing so he chose the copy closest to him and drew the notched arrow back with a steady inhale.[break][break]
His amber eyes flicked to the side, detecting movement nearby, but he had the target lined up. Now was the moment and his attention returned to the assassin as he released the arrow. Holding his position as it whizzed through the air. The triumphant anticipation of a critical hit being too intoxicating to ignore. [break][break]
He wasn't certain how these zombies kept finding him. They didn't track like normal shinobi at all. It was frustrating and frankly taxing for a jounin so accustomed to evading direct combat. All he could do now was hope fate would intervene or else that he could somehow avoid taking any major injuries. [break][break]
Jun claims you as his son but there is a very real possibly that you are actually his nephew and you don't trust that Jun would tell you the truth. Still, Jun is the only father you've ever known and your mother divorced him and left when you were five.

June brought a baby home after a year of working undercover in the Land of Lightning. That baby was you. Your father has never talked about your mother or where you came from and you're afraid to ask.

[attr="class","torchic-post"] Jun yanked an arrow from the skull of a downed zombie, pressing a foot against the creature’s limp chest and bringing with it a weirdly dry eyeball. The marksman ridded the shaft of excess viscera with an expert flick of the wrist. He wouldn’t normally bother recycling arrows but the heat of battle raged around them and a single arrow could allow him to see his children again or not. This thought struck him just as out of the corner of his eye he clocked another jounin fall to an unexpected enemy. [break][break]
He glanced to the side at Zazou, a fellow Mist Ninja that had come to his aid when his position had been made. “Did you see that?” He said with a nod in the direction of the ambush that had just occurred. The woman was indeed skilled at remaining unseen. He watched as the shadows seemed to envelope her and she disappeared from his even his keen view. “I’ll try to take her out the next time she reveals herself. Try your best to draw her out, if you’re able, otherwise lay flat and play dead.” His tone was flat and free of judgement either way. He didn’t mind using the Aburame woman as bait instead but he wasn’t as confident about his timing if she were the target. [break][break]
Jun ran off and disappeared into the wilderness. He kicked off a trunk, grabbing the lowest branch and climbing up through the branches of a tree without rustling a single branch. He laid flat and notched an arrow, waiting with baited breath for any sign of movement be it near or far. If he spotted a threat he would fire immediately.
Jun was born into a large family with too many mouths to feed. His father taught him to fish and sail but the young man dreamed of a better life. After begging his parents for months, they agreed to send him with a merchant caravan headed to Kirigakure. There he began his career as a Mist Shinobi where his sailing experience allowed him to excel as a lookout on a ship. Jun enjoyed his time at sea which was cut short when he was sent inland to defend against shinobi from the Hidden Cloud; he switched from sniping seagulls out of the sky to taking down enemy targets overnight. He did what he had to do to survive and defend his homeland. It wasn’t easy at first but he trained himself not to be too conscientious about his actions because making it from one moment to the next was all that mattered.
Jun became noticeably aloof during this time. His brother died during the war and after the conflict he married his brother’s widow. They had a child together within a half-year of their wedding and rumors flew through the village that the child may have been his brother’s son. He denied these rumors implying that their relationship began before the death of his brother. Their marriage was strained at the best of times but after a year-long infiltration mission in the land of lightning, he returned with a baby daughter. Unable to stomach his infidelity, they divorced and she returned home to the fishing village they’d both come from. His two children remained with their father in Kirigakure.
Jun is very independent, having worked alone quite often. He is efficient and gets the job done no matter how long it takes. There is a cold rationality and decisiveness to his actions. He is resourceful and patient but his level of skill brings with it a twinge of arrogance. Although, for the most part he very much lives in the moment with little regard for past successes or fear of future failures. He is merciless towards his targets and while no one would describe him as loyal, he is fiercely protective of his family, village, and team. He keeps his distance, allowing them to learn from small failures but always keeps a sharp eye on the horizon for approaching dangers. Despite his stoic nature, Jun can be quite charming when he needs to be and is generally well liked by his peers.
Proficiencies
Taijutsu [Journeyman] Jun has trained his body to be a weapon on its own; mindfulness and control of his physical form being necessary for both stealth and archery. The jounin does his best to take out his enemies before they know he is there but being a practical man he understands that close combat is more efficient at times and has trained to handle such situations.
Archery [Veteran] Jun’s skill is not defined by any special bow; he is able to craft a simple replacement from scavenged materials found in nature. His true weapons are keen eyes and a deadly aim that is both accurate and precise. He knows what areas of the body to target and has the ability to hit them. His vast experience and near perfect timing allow him to accurately predict the location of a moving target and adjust his aim for forces that may affect the arrow over long distances like wind and gravity.
Stealth [Veteran] Jun is purposeful in every thought, speech, and action. He is fully present in each moment, being especially aware of his breathing when he draws back the string of his bow. He strikes decisively from a distance and only when necessary. He finds no use in rage and will not respond to taunts or threats of any kind. It is quite a feat to catch his movement with eye or ear and he takes special precautions to mask his scent with that of the environment around him. Jun seldom utilizes chakra for anything more than the basic academy techniques, making him difficult for even a sensor to differentiate from a civilian.
Fūinjutsu [Journeyman] Over the years, Jun has picked up some sealing techniques for utility and convenience. This ability allows him to carry a large amount of arrows, extra weapons, and other common tools without compromising his ability to move stealthily. He is able to affect an area with a single arrow by attaching a scroll with additional arrows sealed inside. He is also able to activate explosive tags from a distance.
