Tou was enjoying his day or the serenity of it, and not so much the actual work of it. All for a good cause. It caused him breath and to stop in his tracks and to turn his entire body because of the weight of the log in his hands to see who had called him out initially. Met by that of a pale shinobi. Was he? No.... was he? No... Tou's eyes did squint at him.
His initial thoughts were of restraint, because the man was effectively trying to 'sus' whether the shinobi in front of him was of the Sound or not. He did not want to... overtly strain tension where it was not required (between Sound shinobi). He had not seen this individual before and had almost every intention of quite the salacious response. But, alas, it did not come.
The man's biceps were really screaming under the weight, and Tou would adjust with twisting the log on his body, pressing it downward into his hip for some temporary relief. "If you don't like it, turn up the tunes~" Tou cooed to anyone who dared whether the directness of the presumed Genin in front of him, or by those crowing from his peripherals. Unbothered so far by his presence of their words, for Tou had dealt with the scathing noise of disdain from others.
"Tou Yamashita," A voice of proud nature spoke, with some tiny echo among the many convalescing in the cave they stood in: a cause of the entryway, or one of them in the the Sound village.
The new shake up and new platoon meant that they would be getting on together quite well in the future, and Tou was bearing a shit eating grin for the three that had invaded his space some time prior to their current meeting. "Isn't it just a glorious day, Ryota-sama?" that same face shone. His tall stature was dressed as apathetically bland as usual, in his hand held a small trinket: what was an anchor made of metal fumbling around the inside of his hand.
He hadn't the faintest idea of what their plan was today; he was a Genin. Well. Hopefully not for much longer. Tou hoped that his magnificence would shine soon enough, even if there were other more capable individuals here today than he. All the sooner to deliver swift justice but even Tou agreed with himself that there needed to be actual training for it. For that purpose, he was at the very least ready for their day.
The problem of dealing with the zealot and the devout is that they would see whatever meaning from something that they so desired that agreed with their epistemology of the world: and not nearly for the more reasonable of folk. Where Kaede had spoken first before the outspoken interrupted his attention he had been listening intently to her, eyes ever so focused on her. And he went to respond - till an interruption of man and woman in a harmonious symphony of discordance.
And too, Tou would have then spoken for this man but someone else earned his ire: a new blonde haired lady of born legginess that had the most to say and offer. Tou would laugh softly while she spoke, as though unbothered by her questions or rhetoric. It gave him the opportunity to circle around the crowd and against the back of a cave wall as he listened - not looking directly at this one, though.
"I welcome the front line, and yet you seem so ready to place me out at the front while you squawk from the back about what I could be doing? Foul! We stand here in the same cave system, no? Your hesitancy to die makes me deem you a coward. I'll be on the front line, and I'll almost certainly not see you there! I will do it with a glorious rage, with intent and purpose: and if you are not with us, you are an enabler of the damned."
But, all press was good press because the introduction of the disbelievers was drawing people - more than Tou was ordinarily able to pull whenever he did something like this. Dissidents were always good for show, and they had made a fatal flaw in believing that they could have won - because though they very well had a point, Tou would bring them down to his level and then beat them with experience.
"You want us all to live. But those creatures out there would see this all gone, so we need to act together as one village. Not like this entity of doubt." He took the moment to focus his ilk onto the now hooded girl - perhaps a little closer than she would like - with a lower voice than had been preaching. Pointing out the other girl - a pariah in his own eyes.
Tou sincerely hated the thought of other nations not of Sound nature freely occupying their land. It riddled him with rage that the Taiyou empire had sought their sights on his village as opposed to the other weaker nations. They would easily repel the forces, and he concluded that Mai had made the preparations with ample opportunity to shed enemies of their lives as opposed to the Sound's own - and not out of a lack of ability in order to defend against it.
For that purpose, Tou was actually shuffling wood. Yes - literally shuffling wood from station to station alongside a small squad of other Genin. A small mission, with so little difficulty it would be better left with slaves. But yet, he was here. Just making use of creating... what he assumed would be for reinforcements? Barricades? Temporary structures? Fires? The man had no idea.
So during his day it was apt that he had begun to hum and sing, much to the chagrin of the people around him. He didn't mind. One more stump on a wagon, he supposed. Who else to bother in training his own body by cheap labour. The empire were due to attack soon, so it was best to keep the pure safe first - and that meant taking care of business first.
There would be no reason to become jarred at this point. Tou welcomed it - even if he didn't particularly want anybody to invade his space that had been established. Preference against competition he supposed.
Kaede may not have realised that the person she spoke to did not obey the laws of logic or emotion, and had the technical wit to obstruct and the emotional intelligence of a donkey - able to dish out blows and completely throw off discontent with other worse accusations. So, with whatever reasonable things Kaede might have mentioned, Tou would have his point and be as ridiculous to make it as necessary. "That--- that is a good question." The waggle of his finger spoke very little to the content he spoke of.
"Defending isn't enough - fight for your nation and die for it. You - would you let armies march here and murder your family?" Tou had pointed out some random SOB and put them on the spot, who yet didn't seem impressed even so. But, at the expense of sounding silly? Conformity. "No..." And of course Tou rose his hands "A diligent shinobi! He would slaughter oouur enemies given the chance!"
A loud personality would not be met by the timid - even if one were a Shinobi it would attract the crowds of hard headed people and those confident in themselves to challenge his way of thinking. So it was later than Tou had initially anticipated but someone did offer their thoughts. And when he said thoughts, it was more of a concerted question - an opportunity which caused the brown eyes of his to gleam, setting the sight for the rest of his face to follow suit in curves and wrinkles of a smile.
"Why, restitution - glorious purpose!" Tou exclaimed - there was no soap box to drop from or a rock he had stepped up - feeling that his body was enough to suffice to be the stage on which his throat sung. "Weee, cannot even begin to conquer the scourge at our borders without fiirst destroying our own bodies and cells, squeezing out the pain, I'd say!" His own two index and middle fingers gestured towards her chest - and then pressed into his own solar plexus and with a voice chock full of emphasis.
He was lucky enough to have gathered enough people because he didn't ordinarily gather more than a few people, so he had to make an extra effort around this time to be eloquent. "Our Nobusuma-sama rose from the previous Kage and claimed rightful ownership over the hordes of evil usurpers to give us all a better life, winning battle after battle and defeating every villain to stand on a stage. Doesn't this give us the glorious gift of life, for her?" The creepier thing was his lack of change in facial expression, so gleefully absorbed in his own words.
Did these things happen? No, probably not. But what mattered was that Tou believed what he was saying and the conviction of a eloquent zealot spoke more volumes than the whispers of truth could offer in rebuttal. At least, that's what he believed.
Today was a day for glorious purpose as Tou readied for his day. And that was to preach: not for a god, well. Sort of for a god, as his inflated sense of belief would have it. First part of the day? Preaching. The second half would have him muster some of that amazing chakra that he had learned all about to produce effects beyond his formerly civilian means.
Dressed in his military uniform just like all the others, he didn't waste much time in one of the central crossing points for Otogakure's Shinobi from an entrance that proliferated into many of the other tunnels and was considered a major spot in terms of traversing, keeping it busy for all manners of Shinobi and the vague traveller being escorted by.
"A glorious day for purpose," Tou waited no time in starting, no ramping up his volume over time as he got into it, but pure and unbridled chagrin to the expressions of other people. "So glorious that we do not yet see the Sound for what it is. A haven against the rest of the world! Scourge purged from the land because of our noble leader and enemies to the south kept at bay! I offer you today a resolution against the blight of the Sound: purge yourselves of weakness and step out into the...." he continued, drawing breath and enunciating with his hands as necessary, calling to the nobodies who would be walking past and out into the world - for if one person could listen and heed, the rest of them might take notice.
And by the end of that initial speech that lasted twenty minutes, only one person remained. There had been nobody jaded enough to speak out against this initial sermon. Heck, he still had a few more hours of this - sharpening his tongue and mind much like any other muscle in his body, as important as his chakra was needed to be equally tended to.
Deeply nationalistic and willing to die for his village before disgrace or dishonour, Tou surprisingly did not become a Shinobi until much later in his life - graduating at the age of 23, putting his money where his mouth was when the talk wasn't the walk. Scarcely pragmatic and more self centred, he did not have any fame or renown to his name, though he came from a good family.
His turn to a military nation was one of choice, and one of necessity. He is a bold person at heart - taking risks and perhaps being a little too vocal about his allegiance and willingness to die for his nation, and death before dishonour. He is a generally unpleasant person, with understandable reason. He finds it difficult to empathise with others even if they are strong if they do not hold the same or similar virtues as he and his goal is to bring Otogakure to a new glory, to create a United Nations of Sound - however he can make that happen - to the point of zealous crusader if he were given the opportunity.
His main hobbies outside of proclaiming Otogakure's greatness is actually quite serene, which is trinkets collecting, which actually also makes him a hoarder of kooky things big and small, especially items of historical value. It can make him greedy in times of exchanges and barters, especially when it's something he tends to like looking at. Rocks, bones, jewellery - axe heads or otherwise items of no value to anybody but him. As a more annoying trait to him, is that he does a lot of lip smacks during his speech.
Proficiencies
Taijutsu [Rookie] More lean and strong than fast and nimble, Tou's 6 foot 2 frame actually focuses on using his long legs for kicks rather than punches, and so those hands usually stick quite close to his frame like a boxer's would, though normally tucked tighter into his chest, but lacks finesse beyond what had been taught at the academy.
Shurikenjutsu [Rookie] Tou's ability to throw projectiles is okay: not that they tend to do much during a fight between Shinobi, but Tou can throw things with a decent accuracy (on a board, would at least hit inside the circle consistently) and has learned a little about curving those projectiles and some understanding of predicting a moving target.
Stealth [Rookie] Truly a rookie and little concept toward the notion of his environment, Tou has effectively learned about his body size and how to hide it behind objects, and to not talk while he does so. While he has the concept of not standing on loud things he hasn't understood about hiding himself from other senses or utilising his muscles to produce as little noise as possible.
Fire Release [Rookie] Tou's chosen specialty is toward the art of ninjutsu and fire release. Fiery and cackly, Tou has very basic control over this new skill of his, being able to form sparks of fire and at most first degree burns on touch, as well as moderating his body temperature for a primitive form of 'heat control.'
Shakuton [Dormant] What is not yet owned by Tou's repertoire is his ability to conjure orbs of mass destruction of the heat kind. Tou does not have access to this ability just yet; but it is in his blood.
