Originally a wanderer who lived his life as a monk in the wastes of Sunagakure, Enki lived an august existence within the sphere of political tension that soon enveloped his home country. Tales of his 'devotion to the wind' and eventual assumption into the Village Hidden in the Rain are the canonical story about his early life, capturing the most convenient and palatable elements of his pre-service. During the war, Enki is credited with liberating a few small towns that faced inevitable destruction in the eventual Suna campaign, as well as insuring the passage of civilians and refugees from the Kaze no Kuni. Tales aside, Enki's popular legacy is second only to his standing in the village, where he enjoys a minor celebrity status among the generations who did not truly experience the war, who often affectionately refer to him as grandfather or uncle. Although patriarchal antics sustain his public image, Enki finds his fulfillment through directly guiding the future of the village, who he is relatively hands on with compared to most ninja of his station.
On the outskirts of the village, Enki maintains a small monastery where adherents are permitted to train and live so long as they do not interfere in his usual routine. Surrounded by a small group of devotees, he is shadowed in his day to day life by bald men and women in simple fabrics who participate in the menial tasks he performs each day, until he asks them to give him privacy or engage in spiritual reflection. This particular brand of spiritualism is Enki's devotion to the wind, which he claims guides the clouds and breathes life into all living things. While harmless in theory, this enigmatic approach to spiritualism has made Enki somewhat of a divisive member of the village - although he is staunchly loyal to the village, his grandiosity and personal guidance of villagers has made a few capable people more loyal to him than the village itself, or converted them into full time devotees to the wind. Out of respect to his service and station within the village, those who take issue with his approach to life whisper interesting stories of his life before and during the war, with rumors ranging from brutal torture of prisoners-of-war to illegitimate children in other villages.
Beneath the curtain of these legends and spirits, Enki's greatest ambition is to create a world where war is a failure of policy rather than an inevitability of the human condition. He is cognizant of his reputation, both good and bad, but does little to challenge them in the public square - like a true agent of shadow, he simply directs and utilizes these stories to work towards his goals. Despite this, Enki is not an outwardly serious or somber man - to the contrary, he is rather jovial when within the walls or borders of his homeland. When confronted with the memories of his old life or failures, however, the mask often slips to reveal a man without limits to his ambition or will.
Taijutsu [Veteran]
Exceptionally fit, Enki utilizes a style of taijutsu reminiscent of Muay Thai, with a heavy emphasis on knees, elbows and sweeping kicks. The most noted element of his fighting style is the complete lack of rhythm or reason in his movements and attacks, which he developed by shadowing more orthodox taijutsu fighters. Enki excels in throwing off an opponent through his off-and-on again approach to striking, which often focuses on destabilizing an opponent through clever footwork or baiting them into an attack for a counterkick or knee to a vital area. When engaged in a close melee, such as a tight grapple or clinch, Enki is extremely comfortable throwing short elbows or surgically precise knees into painful areas to create space or batter an opponent into submission.
Kyujutsu [Journeyman]
Developed as a skill for hunting more so than fighting, Enki's approach to archery is one rooted in both recreation and efficiency. Possessing a strong sense of timing, the man will often only fire an arrow or two in an attempt to soften a distant target or otherwise inhibit their movement so he can utilize his more proficient abilities in dealing with them. To this end, Enki is well acquainted with which areas will leave a man limping or stop a bird from flying, but due to his lack of desire to execute someone with a distant bow, his ability to hit lethal targets is lacking. One trick he has developed as a Fūton user is coating an arrow with chakra to partially ignore exceptionally windy or otherwise barometrically difficult firing conditions. Though it does little to aid in the power of the shot, the kneading of Fūton chakra allows the arrow to resist these externalities to some extent.
Stealth [Journeyman]
Having lived off the land and engaged in tactical espionage, Enki is well versed in conventional stealth techniques. He is not exceptionally gifted in any one aspect of stealth, but has learned to incorporate trivial Fūton techniques to either reduce his own or exacerbate another creature's scent to assist hiding or hunting respectively.
Fūton [Veteran]
Alongside his taijutsu abilities, Enki is best known for his proficiency with Fūton which focuses on wide-scale disruption and creating situations that are advantageous for his hand-to-hand focus. He is especially trained in disrupting projectiles, both solid and non-solid, by creating precise bursts of wind or dense walls of air. In the rare event that he is evenly matched or bested in terms of taijutsu, however, Enki's offensive focus is entirely based on techniques that drastically increase or decrease wind pressure in an area. When given sufficient concentration or a target without the means to avoid it, Enki has been rumored to utilize a devastating technique that increases the pressure in one's surroundings to the point that parts of their respiratory system are permanently damaged or even completely collapse.
