The Inuzuka wiped her brow after growling those words of hardened determination, prying another clump of dirt away from the pit she was digging. Using nothing but her bare hands, she continued to tear into the ground like a stubborn mole, flinging dirt behind herself into a messy pile. Clearly she'd been at it for a while too, because the hole was nearly deep enough to hide her from sight.
Suddenly she stopped after hearing a grating noise, a brief wince showing on her features. "Dammit," she hissed. Nails scratched at hard stone beneath the soil, unable to break through the next layer of the ground. "No good." After a disappointed huff Makoto wiped her hands free of dirt, staining her attire to the point where she looked more the part of a miner than a shinobi.
All around, her ninken were doing the same - digging a plethora of huge pits into the earth. Whether or not they shared Makoto's motivations, the dogs seemed pretty invested in the whole activity, kicking up streams of dirt as they burrowed deeper and deeper. Some had reached layers of rock just like Makoto, and others had found giant roots blocking their path, but it hardly slowed them down much. When they reached a roadblock, it was just time to dig another hole.
