The fame of the Inuzuka clan stretches far and wide, from the depths of the forests, to the furthest mountain ranges, and even across the boundless seas. It was along the waves near Mizu no Kuni that one such band of Inuzuka led a lifestyle of piracy and debauchery, exploiting their ninja arts to prey on the coastline whenever they saw fit. Sometimes they sold their services to the rivaling villages, other times they simply ran wild in the countryside, but more often than not they merely hunted to sate their baser instincts.
Born into a family of humble marauders, Makoto was exposed to a pirate's life before she even understood what shinobi were. She lived on the waves, going from place to place and never looking back. Such was the way of her people, and she came to appreciate - even love - their nomadic lifestyle. Naturally, she picked up her fair share of cutthroat values from her time spent at sea, becoming a ruthless and capable fighter from a young age. This aptitude for fighting along with her ability to adapt under duress didn't go unnoticed either, the clan providing her with a variety of leadership opportunities to test her mettle. Time and time again, she proved her worth.
Although she had the skill and determination to become an accomplished pirate or ninja, Makoto became more concerned with matters of family as the years went on and her bloodlust soured. Since the clan struggled to maintain their pirating ways with dwindling numbers, it was apparent that things weren't going to be sustainable. Makoto then took a more involved role in Inuzuka affairs, rearing the clan's ninken and advising the clan's affairs instead of heading into battle. It was during that same time which she met her spouse and started a family of her own, but the change was short-lived. Makoto lost both of them at sea when the clan was caught in a deadly storm, decimating their ranks and her hopes for future change.
Despite the many scars she received from countless battles, nothing hurt her more than losing her family.
Left to grieve, Makoto tried to preserve what was left of her branch's legacy in a final, desperate push. She gathered what ninken she could and banded together with the dread pirate, Blacksail, believing there was some way to protect what little she had by swearing fealty to his cause. When the time came that the fleets descended upon Kirigakure, Makoto was there on the front lines, delving back into her bestial prowess and fighting like the warrior she was years ago. The experience rekindled a dim flicker of hope in the woman, but given the uncertainty of the shifting powers she was surrounded by, there was no telling what would come next.
Since siding with the new regime and transitioning into a proper shinobi, her life has taken another turn and she approaches her duties with unshaking conviction. Makoto never truly recovered from the loss of her kinsmen but she filled the void by raising packs of ninja hounds and offering her experience to the village. Those whom she takes under her wing are reportedly treated more like family rather than subordinates, which gives her style of leadership a nurturing quality. Even so, she can be exceeding harsh when meting out punishments and her old pirate ruthlessness is often what drives her subordinates to stay in line.
In her free time, Makoto leads the Kaiketsubyō Inugumi a.k.a. the Scurvy Dogs - an epithet from her clan's pirating days - in defensive operations around Kirigakure. The group is composed entirely of 'volunteer' ninken which she has raised throughout the years to assist as guard dogs and sentries.
Inuzuka Clan: Four Legs Technique [Veteran]
The special techniques of the Inuzuka are as second nature to Makoto. Over the years her instincts have been sharpened to a razor-sharp edge, making her an expert in both the clan's Four Legs style of combat and all things related to ninken. The major strengths of said techniques combine ferocity with animalistic partners, which she has honed to the extent that she hardly needs to communicate with her ninken in order to coordinate all but the most elaborate jutsu. Most notably, Makoto is an agile fighter in close-quarters and prefers to overwhelm opponents with intense flurries of attacks in conjunction with her ninken.
Where her canine partners are concerned, Makoto has bonded with many over the course of her career and she tends to preside over them like the leader of one big pack. Those that she brings along during dangerous missions are usually the older, more experienced hounds, however she has been known to switch partners on a whim. Given that she doesn't play favorites, her ninken are generally equally matched in terms of their strengths and abilities.
Kenjutsu [Journeyman]
The art of swordplay isn't normally conducive with most of the Inuzuka clan's techniques, but Makoto has developed a unique style of wielding blades using nothing but her mouth. Because of this rather unorthodox approach, her skill with a sword is nothing close to elegant though it does keep her hands free for simultaneously performing seals or fighting hand-to-hand. She prefers quick and aggressive styles of attack when fighting this way, utilizing the swordplay to keep her enemies off-balance rather than scoring lethal blows.
Stealth [Veteran]
Hiding one's presence and detecting unseen threats comes naturally to Makoto, her skill in stealth being inherently linked to her animal instincts. While her approach to concealment is none too complicated, she excels in using camouflage and transformation jutsu to vanish from all but the keenest senses. Years of hunting have also made her quite adept at moving quietly, giving her an intimate knowledge over Silent Killing techniques, so it comes at no surprise that she enjoys using ambush tactics.
Ice Release [Dormant]
The ability to combine Wind and Water into a more powerful blend of chakra nature currently lies dormant in her blood.
