With a name that roughly translates to “Electric Power Generation Potential”, little is left to be guessed as to the type of person Chinetsu has been known to be. Yet behind the withered, grim expression constantly worn by the veteran lies layers of intrigue never revealed to his cohorts. Chinetsu’s age places him with an unfortunate familiarity to how life was before and after the great purging of Hi no Kuni, that is, though the lenses of a child forgotten due to war, that which would consume the very two things that not just made him, and defined him, but died for him - or at least, as a result of him.
Standing at a year shy of fifty, he had the misfortune of being privy to the effects of war, with his father as a proxy to such lessons. The progeny to a war hero and renowned field medic, he knew all too well the effects extended armed conflict on a massive scale can have on a man. During his younger years, he was left to wonder just who his only hero truly was, yet he was robbed of ever acquiring such knowledge by the very person that could gift it to him.
Oft’ he’d slip into troubled slumber, bothered by the notion his father was apparently a much different man when he was but a child growing up before the war, and then once the great event ravaged everyone's life, how after he was left permanently morphed and negative transformed as a result of the passing of his mother. With all in his family but him gone, he had been left to grow up under a man whose life was but a shadow of its former self.
It was as if the tales his grandmother once spoke, before meeting her own natural demise, regarding the man as he grew up were just that - fantasy. And when the man himself could not corroborate, willingly or not, the final mystery was forever sealed in his suicide. The coward's way out, after a life marred in loss. And so, just like that, Chinetsu was left with all he needed to know – there was no glory in dying for others, no one will ever truly thank you for helping them, and as such, there was no point in creating life only to abandon it. This cold, indifferent and uncaring final lesson would soon define the Chuunin for years to come.
Despite trying to live outside of his father’s untimely imposing shadow, Chinetsu stepped into the shinobi life for similar reasons which saw him vanish from it – his pure, unadulterated need to help and heal others as a direct result of his own experience with abandonment. Unfortunately, the toils of men left a permanent scar on his psyche, and even after life seemed to “turn the other cheek” and show him that his efforts truly made change for the better, the inevitable death through trivial means, over time, of those he had once saved, left him with a permanent level of sarcasm over his own efforts, as well as life in general.
With such affronts over life leaving a seemingly eternal bitter taste in his mouth, he has spent most of his days spewing vituperation, an act that slowly but surely left him alone, as no sane person would tolerate such negativity over time. Alcohol became his only friend, with his comrades of flesh all but abandoning his side, unable to cope with his self-pity and loathing. After successfully hemorrhaging all friendships, he turned to the warm embrace of the shadows, and has decided to live out the rest of his days in drunken slumber.
The call to arms, despite being clamorous, all but eludes his ears, a personal choice made by the medic. It would take the movement of mountains to bring his thundering presence back from the pits of despair and inebriation, out into the light, and back into the ranks of Kumogakure’s elite.
Taijutsu [Apprentice] Although Chinetsu’s medical and lightning proficiencies point to a life of nature manipulation, the many warriors – both from his family line, as well as those befriended – have allowed the Chuunin to develop a respectable affinity for physical self-defense. Unfortunately, with his even friendlier relationship held with alcohol, those skills have deteriorated over time. Perhaps some time in the gym could benefit the well-known drunk?
At his best, he always aspired to mimic his father's preferred fighting style, an apt combination of taijutsu, married along with the explosive power of harnessed chakra. Though he has yet to acquire such a level of precise violence - by his own choosing, mind you - he concentrates on hand to hand, defensive countermeasures, as is apt to keep the enemy at aby through evasive means, as well as disable them potential through the art of grapping, as well as a tight intelligence for ground work, and overall ground awareness.
Yet despite his self invoked weaknesses, Chinetsu's goal is to combine Taijustsu skills with his medical prowess, hoping to channel both the power of the healing chakra as well as the physicality in order to create the perfect offense. Only time will tell if such a prediction will come through...
Shurikenjutsu [Apprentice] Chinetsu's grasp over projectile based fighting is basic, at best. With his focus on medicine and ninjutsu in general, his other combat aspects exist in the realm of sufficient proficiency. While these days, with the bottle in hand, it is hard to fathom the Chuunin as able to hit anything in range with any form of respectable accuracy, he nonetheless has been known to find his target quite a few times from a distance.
Ideally, he reached a level of proficiency where he is able to find his targets without much duress whilst moving, and was growing comfortable with throwing multiple pieces at once, over a generally acceptable distance.
Stealth [Apprentice] Although his lifetime training in the shinobi arts have made him formidable, not just at healing and fighting, his lack of care for the refinement of his craft has left much to be desired. As a result, Chinetsu is not quite as stealthy as he once was; only time will tell if he decides to rule the shadows, rather than hide in them, bottles in hand, drool rushing out from the sides of his lips.
His potential, however, with the management and control of his chakra means he was more apt to sensorial-type techniques, those which - when he actually cared and trained - would be used not just to help devise stealthy sneak attacks, but also were meant to make his presence as unknown as possible.
Raiton [Apprentice] Coming from a long line of Kumo warriors, Chinetsu’s affinity for the use and manipulation of thunder is to be expected, though admittedly so, his disregard for any form of continued training and maintenance of his overall skill means he has much to make up. With years spent on a liquid diet and little to no actual discipline, his tradecraft leaves much to be desired. Still, with some effort, a return to his true lightning potential is well within reach.
At his best, Chinetsu is known for a functional use of his thunder abilities, often using in combination with medical techniques for revival purposes, and on a similar vein, for defensive purposes. As raiton is often criticized for its power yet lack of range, Chinetsu looks past its critics, using the style for both defensive and offensive purposes. Though he has yet to arrive at such a level, he has certainly heard tales of those few Kumo warriors that combined their prowess in lightning along with their physical ability.
Until reaching that plane, Chinetsu has so far been satisfied with the element's medical use, as well as the short-ranged yet immediate summoning of the raw elements power, therefore triggering an excellent self defense mechanism - in the right hands, at least...
Medical Ninjutsu [Apprentice] Despite his seemingly permanent aversiveness to anything related to his patriarch, Chinetsu nonetheless found himself walking down the path of an accomplished physician on the field. Some say this choice was seen as an attempt for the Chuunin to somehow prove his father wrong regarding his final choice – though no one that understood his plights was left to offer such validation. In the end, after being dismayed over the self-perceived notion that his efforts were truly in vain, Chinetsu’s besotted condition would erode most of his medical skills, and thus rendered them unexceptional, at best.
Yet despite his arguably well-deserved distain, he nonetheless still retained his ability for saving life, and often was known for his unorthodox techniques to save that very life, especially in combat. Much like his father, he quickly developed a sense for being able to provide basic healing services on the scene when materials were not readily available, including knowledge of his surroundings in order to use nature in his favor.
When it comes to combat, a combination of his chakra and physical excision is his endgame. While he has not quite understood the odd marriage, he nonetheless applies himself at it so as to come closer and closer to being better at it.
