she knew it was a bad idea to have agreed to come later than tengfei, there were so many people here and she was definitely lost. he couldn't have met her someone at the edge of the village? annoying. though it was probably him testing her (or just being mean, it was a 50-50 to be honest). but now she was stuck walking through the village and looking for their inn that they were supposed to stay in and it was way too hot for just aimless wandering. pride too stubborn to let her stoop to ask for directions and feet not that tired yet that she couldn't keep walking. but damn, she wanted a nap after travelling, was that so hard to ask for? [break][break] her thoughts are interrupted when she stumbles over something, catching herself before falling, peering around to see what it was that she tripped over. "ah... was it you?" yukio asks when she sees the bright eyes peering at her from just inside an alley after not seeing anything where she'd been walking. "come here, i didn't mean to startle you~." voice soft, charming as she calls out to what she thinks is a small puppy, hoping to coax it out from the shadows.
finger to lips, feigns innocence for a moment before smiling widely back at him. guess he wasn't going to let her tease him for that long, lame. finishes the last of her meal before finally answering though. "yeah, thanks for volunteering!" a giggle as she clings to his arm, invading his personal space with a sense of familiarity. "you can't say you don't want to, nichi-chan." the silent 'i caught you looking' tacked on at the end with a smirk. plus if they were at the kisaeng house, it'd be easy to say she was just taking a 'break', not the whole day off -- though tengfei wasn't even here, so who would really tell on her?
it was easy to tell when the other two arrived, junji's sing-song version of nichiren's name an obvious sign, even from inside one of the boat cabins. thank god because this was the last thing stopping her from joining tengfei in the hidden sound village for that ridiculous hold hands and play nice event their hokage was holding. didn't understand what that had to do with the kirigakure, not like they helped them out with anything. but she didn't like the idea of being stuck here to babysit while he got to have all the fun. she's hurrying towards them as soon as she finishes signing something, joining the trio of boys on the deck of the ship. [break][break] "junji-kun, you know the mist only works if you actually try to be quiet?" her voice soft, teasing, but also a hint of seriousness in it as well. it was meant to help conceal them from prying eyes, but if they kept breaking the cover, what was the point of the wasted chakra to create it. dumb brats.[break][break] "i'm yukio! and you?" nearly rivals junji's previous volume, completely contradicting her previous words. she knows who he is by name thanks to tengfei, but gives him the chance for proper introductions. "you smell good, what is it?" curiosity gets the best of her before she can stop herself.
it takes a lot to not giggle at the younger boy's stuttering, though she doesn't complete succeed, her words tinged with laughter when she replies. "i was thinking swimming, but bath sounds better. shaded from the sun and everything~." voice still a teasing tone. "i'm glad you specified it wasn't because i was dirty or i would've hit you." not exactly a joke, but he didn't need to know that. though--
"but a bath sounds like work and i'm taking the day off." small pout at the idea of getting a bath all set up by herself.
"only if you promise!" holds her pinky finger up to make him agree - she wasn't actually serious about making him keep it, she knew both their schedules would be pretty busy soon. but the idea did sound fun and it was always nice to spend time with him. plus, she liked seeing him get flustered.
which is why after a few more bites of her second nikuman, yukio's saying, "going closer to the water sounds good right now though, it's so hot today." pops another one of her buttons open before fanning herself.
"people always stop and chat, so it's never just walking." she'd already been stopped several times before running into nichiren and she was sure that more would stop her later - case in point as one of the other chunin of the village stop them. people loved to ask questions about her studies and she didn't mind answering their questions about medicines and channeling chakra into healing. "ah, you know, i don't think i've ever gone?" a rather sheltered life before, something that seemed so commonplace for someone who lived near the water and she can't remember ever doing something like that.
"take me fishing, nichi-chan~" now that one of her hands is free after finishing her first bun, she uses it to grab his own and pull it close to her, eyes wide, pleading for him to agree.
notices the shift of eyes, tiny smirk at the way he turned away because of it. she knew what she wore drew looks, that was the point after all. "aww, well if he's asking you to do it, it must be important!" she couldn't really see how anything tengfei asked of them could be useless - the other was always thinking several steps ahead of everyone else. kind of terrifying in a way, really.
"do i ever really have days off?" she teases, yukio was almost always working, even if it wasn't when she was supposed to do so. though sometimes it was something easier like babysitting some of the genin from her platoon and overseeing their training. "though i like to explore different food places or explore around the area. honestly what i'm doing now.. just wandering around and not thinking too hard about anything." did that make her lame? was she old? oh no..
satisfied with a new purchase and his admittance that he'd just been playing, she's all smiles again at the younger. at least until he asks if she's slacking off, green eyes shift between nichiren and her food before reluctantly answering.
"maybe?" a sheepish smile instead, hoping he won't tell anyone. though it's not like she really thought they'd believe him over her, right? she could always lie and say she was... researching something. "what are you doing? anything important?" maybe she could rope him into some plans or another to keep them both occupied.
today was one of those days where her mind couldn't focus on anything productive, so she decided to wander around the city to see if anything would help strike her muse. she stopped a few times to chat with people or look at items at shops on her way, but it wasn't until she passed a rather delicious food booth that she actually stopped to buy something. the steamed meats were too much to resist, "one nikuman please," she says to the man behind the counter before changing her mind, "actually two!" yukio hadn't had lunch yet, so an extra serving didn't seem like a bad idea. maybe having some food would help her out of her weird funk too!
double fisting both meat buns, she's about to dig in to the first when she's pushed? bumped? whatever it was, it was rude since she drops one of them onto the ground. her brows knit together in slight frustration since she'd just bought them. "hey, watch where you're going! you owe me a new one." words said before she even turns around to see who her offender is.

a lady never gets her hands dirty. [break]― unless there's no other choice. [break]yukio prefers to let her words do the talking for her, but she isn't afraid to use her fists if it's required. though if she has the choice, she'd rather try and not get involved in close combat without her sword unless her life was in danger. despite several years of training and fending for herself, she still dislikes using taijutsu. however being raised in a strict household meant she had to partake in lessons and learn the basics of taijutsu even with her reluctance.
kenjutsu ❁ apprentice
a sword is the extension of yourself. [break]― balance hangs on the fingers of peace. [break]in comparison to her distaste for taijutsu, yukio's love of kenjutsu is unrivaled to nearly anything else. swords are the traditional weapon of choice from the shimizu clan, preferred for their elegance and grace while fighting. yukio's own sword is fashioned rather plainly, preferring to use a standard katana to be as inconspicuous as possible for now. she doesn't need a glamorous and aesthetically pleasing sword to get the job done. she'd rather her abilities speak for themselves instead of being known for having a customized sword. currently, she's still fine tuning her skills and starting to play around with incorporating other forms of jutsu into her moveset with her sword. she's looking to find a way to include her passion for poisons and toxins into her kenjutsu to make her attacks more lethal. though her family's kenjutsu master would say she needs to focus more on her forms instead of trying new techniques just yet.
stealth ❁ apprentice
you should be seen, but not heard. [break]― you were quiet, but you were not blind. [break]quietness was beaten into yukio before she was even old enough to walk - her and her siblings should always be seen, but never heard. they weren't to make a disgrace of the family. as such, those 'lessons' translated easily to the stealth training of her genin days, making it easy for her to walk lightly, almost as if silent and she knows how to not leave a trace. however, that's of the past (unless it's required). now that she's free from her restrictive family, she's louder, more boisterous, makes stealth a little bit harder when she's not focused on it. she's often referred to as a tiger-mouse (or something similar) amongst her friends due to her ability to be fierce and stubborn one moment and soft and reserved the next. she's almost a chameleon in that she knows how to adapt her personality to those around her and she uses this to her advantage when she's required to be on the stealthy side of things.
medical ninjutsu ❁ apprentice
do no harm. [break]― take no shit. [break]taking after her mother's side, yukio has had a quick efficiency with medical ninjutsu. the yoshida's are known for being knowledgable about botany, physiology and their ability to easily make medications, so it's unsurprising that yukio was able to pick up on the study of medical ninjutsu from a young age. one of the first things she was able to do as she was learning was to sterilize wounds of her teammates whenever they gained a scratch or cut. her current main focus has been on exploring poisons and how they affect the body and how to prevent (or cause) them in other people. she doesn't have any plans at the moment to pursue surgery, but she wants to be able to easily care for her teammates and friends. her main goal with furthering her medical ninjutsu training is to be someone they can rely on when they need help. she's also curious in exploring how to use chakra enhanced abilities (strength, speed, etc), but her main focus is on healing and toxins currently. her yoshida heritage has made it easy for her to make pills, tablets, powders and a variety of liquid (usually teas) medicines for different ailments.
genjutsu - olfactory ❁ apprentice
everything is impossible. [break]― until it is done. [break]similar with her proficiency with medical ninjutsu, yukio has been interested in tying genjutsu in with her medical studies. through the use of powders and perfumes, yukio is able to cast different genjutsus on people that encounter them. mostly the powders will be used in scented 'medicine' that she produces, though it's not exactly medicine... at the current moment, her focus is on creating different types of hallucinogenic drugs that will dull the users' senses and allows them to see different illusions based off the amount of chakra that was infused in the powders. at the moment she can only produce low level hallucinogens that only last for a few minutes with people having to take several at once for a longer lasting effect. as far as her kneading chakra into perfumes, that's mostly for her personal use to help with her stealth abilities - though it's very noticeable that it's her due to the distinct floral scent that she chooses, but it makes pinpointing her exact location harder.

「 summary 」
to be a shimizu, you're expected to be [break]poised. [break]
reserved.
[break]
an asset.
[break][break]in many ways, you fail at this. you are not poised, even when it's been trained into you to stand up tall. you are not reserved, even when it's been trained into you to speak when spoken to. you are not an asset, even when you've been trained to be useful since you were born. [break][break]but you're still a shimizu. at least by name. you don't recognize them as family, had they ever really been one? you're quickly cut from the family fortunes and made to figure things on your own as soon as you decide to stop following the beaten path. you've never been one to shut up and step in line, you doubt that you ever will be. [break][break]you've found a new family within the kirigakure, something you had once thought impossible. for the longest time, you still doubted that they were family, but you've come to realize that family isn't always blood , it can be found . the vajrakīlaya provide you a sense of comfort that you'd never properly experienced from your blood family. it's easy to forget the shimizu clan when you're surrounded by those that actually care for you and allow you to grow into the woman you could be. they don't care if your dreams seem crazy, they still support you. [break][break]but it's hard to break tradition. hard to break training. there's times when you find yourself sitting back, letting the action happen around you while you play that role of seen but not heard, to keep yourself involved without getting your hands dirty. you have to remind yourself that you're not home - you're allowed to be who you want to be. loud. friendly. creative. [break][break]you're not some pretty flower to be kept in a vase until it [break]
withers and dies.
