“Nyuh..” Tomiko sighed while cornered by a merchant trying to rent a yukata to the young female Genin. Its flowery pattern didn’t suit her tastes, but moreover, it was far too expensive. Dipping her chin, she hoped to escape to pushy saleswoman by hiding her face behind her collar, but that was an impossibility.
Another sigh escaped the child’s lips as she headed toward the onsen. In her arms were both the lounging yukata and a large towel, neither of which she really needed. “I was only planning to dip my feet in” she thought out loud in the same airy breath, but then she turned her face to the sky and smiled gently. “But it’s a nice night. I might as well enjoy myself.”
Tomiko had barely finished her thought when a chorus of shouts and screams erupted from the path ahead, startling the child, and nearly causing her to trip over her own feet.
“Na-?”
After a moment of confusion, instinct seemed to take over, and the Genin narrowed her eyes. She knew what was going on. Trouble was brewing of the worst kind. Boys had entered the girls side. Dropping the items in hand, Tomiko leaned forward and broke into a full sprint toward the source of the commotion. Arms flowing behind her, she slowed only for a moment to lower her head and say a quick "I’m sorry" while passing a ‘NO RUNNING’ sign.
Landing on the scene, the Genin bent her knees and raised her palms, assuming a Jūken type stance. She looked quite serious for all of three seconds before her head tilted to the side, unable to process what she was seeing.
Appearance Tomiko is a short girl of fair complexion with a small frame and long black hair tied to one side that falls into her face and reaches her upper-back. Rather than the featureless white eyes of Hyuuga’s older generations, Tomiko’s are ocean blue with defined pupils. She wears a baggy blue hakama and wide-sleeved white wraparound jacket that hides her deceptively long limbs.
History Tomiko’s origins would be considered as having come from the “side branch” of the Hyuuga clan. After the fall of their homeland, members of her family took up residence in the mountains far outside the village, but fear of the unknown kept them from going any further, or attempting to seek sanctuary in another village. Few at first, they welcomed other peaceful travelers, and eventually formed a small community.
Tomiko is of mixed blood – her father a full-blooded member of the Hyuuga clan, and her mother from a civilian clan with no remarkable traits. Despite this, Tomiko awakened the Byakugan at a young age, and immediately became curious of the ability. After learning the secrets of the Hyuuga clan’s Kekkei Genkai, Tomiko’s instruction evolved into training the Gentle Fist.
Without the source of purpose that required her side of the family to be strong, Tomiko’s father treated his daughter delicately, and to give the child an edge, her mother supplemented the training by teaching strategy through various boardgames. It didn’t take long for Tomiko to develop a false sense of strength, and with an innate desire to protect, Tomiko began talking of returning their family to Otogakure and attending the ninja academy. Tomiko’s parents were against it at first, but soon agreed that their continued peace required them to be in the Hokage’s favor.
Representing a piece of the Hyuuga clan’s side branch, Tomiko rejoined Otogakure.
Training to become a ninja was a humbling experience for Tomiko, who had never experienced much more than hand-to-hand taijutsu of a particular style. Having grown up the only child in her age group, she also found it difficult to approach others and create long lasting friendships. Still, she persevered, and graduated as a Genin while still preserving her clan’s teachings.
Personality Tomiko is most comfortable around adults and finds it easiest to act mature and respectful. Deep down she wishes to enjoy her youth with others her age, but has a hard time tuning to their rhythm, and often finds herself overcompensating to the point where her actions match her child-like appearance. She takes training very seriously, and is always looking for an opportunity to test herself.
Proficiencies
Hyuuga Heritage [Unranked]
Byakugan [Unranked] The Kekkei Genkai that grants the user the ability to see at nearly three hundred and sixty degrees with their vision while it is active. Furthermore, the Byakugan can see through objects and detect chakra networks, even able to pick out an individuals tenketsu/chakra points. Byakugan does take a small amount of charka to keep active and causes the veins around the eyes to become engorged.
Taijutsu [Rookie] Gentle Fist: The style that utilizes the powerful vision granted by the Byakugan to deliver careful bursts of chakra into an opponent’s tenketsu/chakra points. With a successful strike she can disrupt a person’s chakra points with a simple touch, but hitting them accurately in combat is an art that still requires much work for the Genin. Tomiko’s current fighting style predominantly consists of average palm strikes and finger pokes, but she will attack the tenketsu if the opportunity presents itself.
Shurikenjutsu [Rookie] For close range weapon exchanges, Tomiko relies on common kunai which she carries as a pair. At mid range, Tomiko is capable is hitting large stationary targets accurately with light projectiles such as senbon and typical shuriken. Moving targets require weapons with more mass, such as kunai. Keeping her inventory to a minimum, Tomiko usually carries kusari-fundo – a pair of weights connected to a length of chain – as a re-usable projectile.
Stealth [Rookie] Tomiko’s use of stealth isn’t to hide her presence entirely, but rather to disguise her intentions. Wearing baggy clothing on her upper-body allows the ninja to hide the range of her reach, and offers a place to store small weapons such as kunai in order to utilize slight-of-hand techniques. The hakama covering her lower-body makes it difficult to see the ninja’s feet and cloaks the position of her legs.
