Kyoufu wasn't sure about this... a real shinobi mission? She was lucky that they decided to consider her a genin despite her lack of formal shinobi training. That one year she had at the academy wasn't enough to give her a comprehensive understanding of ninjutsu, but she also lacked the finances to take care of herself. At least as a genin she was able to make a living without being forced to resort to becoming some kind of fille de joie living on a mattress in an alley. [break][break]
She was also lucky that Tengfei had attested for her and offered to teach her the ins and outs of ninjutsu. She was lucky that she could come along for a mission like this in order to develop herself as a kunoichi to maintain her independence. [break][break]
"Uhhh... 4... 6... 8..." she said allowed as she counted through her kunai whilst sitting with her back against the tree. She hissed. "Damn, I definitely should have brought more."[break][break]
She wondered if 8 kunai would really be enough to make up for her incompetence as a kunoichi. She wondered what would Tengfei do if she didn't meet his standards. He seemed like a nice enough guy, but she also didn't have any family anymore and this group was the closest thing she had to a place of belonging.[break][break]
She looked up toward the sky, becoming much too aware that she had become tachycardic. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she anticipated that at any moment their enemies could attack and she needed to calm down... or at least make sure that her feelings remained internal. Funny to think she was much braver when she was eight.[break][break]
The soil melded around her bare feet; for the first time in years she felt free. It was the first step that was her own, and it was all because of this mysterious savior who stood next to her. But with this jailbreak came more questions than answers. He had told her his name, perhaps, but what did that name actually mean, and why had he rescued her? How did he even know?[break][break]
Kyoufu turned back to take one final look at the building from which she had spent the last 8 years of her life. From the outside it was inconspicuous, looking like a small wooden shack... but beneath it was an entire system of dungeons and laboratories where God knows what happens. Kyoufu could only assume there were others trapped down there... unless maybe they'd been saved too? She'd never seen other prisoners, but she had a hard time believing that an entire prison had been dedicated to entrapping her.[break][break]
Once she'd taken in her final impression of that god-forsaken place, she turned forward, never to look back again and following this new stranger into the future.[break][break]
"Thank you for taking me out of that place" her voice was quiet, humble. "... where are we going?"[break][break]
It might have seemed like a while to him, but to her it felt like just yesterday that she'd seen him. Sure, there had been a lot of time in between their last meeting and this one, but he seemed like the same person. He had the same face. And furthermore, it wasn't as if Kyoufu had met any new people between their last meeting and now; not even her captors. After 8 years in isolation left her without any new life experiences, or at least not the kind that you wanted... not the kind that would have been helpful to her development though. [break][break]
She would never admit it, but Kyoufu didn't feel much different than she had when she was 9 years old and first placed into captivity. The world had changed around her and her body had physically grown... but she knew that with her newly regained freedom she would need to take steps to mature. [break][break]
"You do look ummm..." she paused to think of the right word to use. "More like an adult. Muscles and stuff."[break][break]
She raised her left hand to grab his right triceps and gave it a little bit of a squeeze. She rested her hand there for more than a few seconds before giving him a pat on the shoulder.[break][break]
"I'm glad you're here," she said. "You must be jounin by now, huh? Super strong I bet. You always were the smart one."
Her skills as a shinobi were no longer honed in any particular way, enough so that it did take her by surprise when the Hyuga genin spoke to her, tearing her away from staring out into the distance. She turned to face him, and certainly enough she recognized him too. Tsukiya Hyuga, she'd recognize those eyes anywhere. White Eyes, white hair. It was a bit strange actually, how they could be so much older and yet he look the exact same to her. [break][break]
"Tsukiya," she whispered his name, her expression holding flat, save for a smile limited to one corner of her lips.[break][break]
She found herself at a loss of words, immediately wondering if he'd known anything about her disappearance. What did he think about it? Would that make him treat her differently?[break][break]
"It's like we're back at the academy, huh?" she teased. That playful attitude she had kept years ago had diminished greatly, but she desired little more than to have fun now that she finally had the freedom to.[break][break]
[attr="class","textieno"]She was on the other side of it now... it had been 8 years since Kyoufu had been taken to that dark facility, living in cages and experimented on like a living cadaver. 8 years, but her sense of perception was so skewed she would have believed anyone had they told her it was one year versus thirty. And she was weaker now. Not only had her knowledge of ninjutsu begun to wane over time, but her body had become malnourished and frail during her captivity. Tengfei was helping her to regain that strength. [break][break]
In any case, for the first time since she'd arrived back into the Mist Village, Kyoufu was now back in her home village, able to explore it with the freedom that any living being should have. It had been arranged that an ally of hers was to be her escort... and she was not regrettable of that fact, knowing full well that she was a high risk target given her lack of strength combined with her unique chakra and physiology.[break][break]
She stood outside of Tengfei's home in wait for whomever it was that was supposed to be coming to join her. Part of her was excited to see whatever she would come across today, but a large part of her was also frightened to the uncertainty of how her day may unfold.
Since her youth, Kyoufu was told stories about the once great Konohagakure no Sato. It was where her grandparents hailed from and was said to be the pinnacle of shinobi success. She is told that she is a descendant of the first Hokage of the Leaf, Tadayoshi Senju who built the village almost single-handedly with his Wood Release. Kyoufu was amazed by how her ancestor battled legions of shinobi alone and perished a hero. Kyoufu thinks such a death is the only honorable way to die and wishes the same for herself.
Since her childhood, Kyoufu has never feared death in the way that most others do. During her academy days she would always take challenges head on. Whenever she was placed in apparent "life or death" scenarios during academy training, her teachers were stunned by how she never knew when to back down... frequently failing demonstrate that she knew when to flee from fight so that she could fight another day. Instead, she would always try to rise to meet the challenge. Her academy teachers had to help her to develop a more logical understanding of her own limitations.
Although she was raised in Kirigakure no Sato and was a loyal kunoichi to her village, she always dreamed of what it would be like to be a shinobi of the fabled Konohagakure no Sato and fantasized about bringing it back one day. After learning that she could use Wood Release during an Academy lesson with chakra paper, Kyoufu's drive only strengthened.
Despite her daydreaming, Kyoufu's parents did not feed into her unhealthy desire to restore the Leaf Village, telling her that such dreams could get her killed. Still, they did nourish her drive to develop her Wood Release Kekkei Genkai. Unfortunately, while Kyoufu was in the shinobi academy, a crooked group of Kirigakure shinobi kidnapped her with the goal of dissecting her and using her cells to enhance themselves. She was in their captivity for nearly 8 years where she had to endure excruciating procedures. Worst of all, there was no way out. Her life easily could have ended in imprisonment without any significant future.
Fortunately she was rescued. She ventured through a hallway drenched in the blood of her captors alongside her savior, Mist Chuunin Téngfēi Zhōng. And so blessed as she should have felt to be saved, she soon learned that her parents had been killed while attempting to rescue her years prior. She had no other family, but was fortunate enough to have gained Téngfēi as a mentor. He helped her to hone her abilities and some time afterward achieved the rank of genin.
Proficiencies
Wood Release [Dormant] A rare talent of the Senju Clan is Wood release, and Kyoufu was born with this natural gift. Wood release enables Kyoufu to manipulate trees, plants, and wood. Kyoufu understands Wood Release as an art tiers above most other forms of ninjutsu in that it grants the user the ability to create life itself. Kyoufu intends to hone her talent by creating the perfect balance between Earth and Water in order to create this life.
Taijutsu [Rookie] Despite her feisty attitude, Kyoufu has always tended to avoid brute force hand to hand combat in favor of ninjutsu. Of course, this doesn't mean that she doesn't have a strong grasp of the basics, as any shinobi typically does before graduating the academy. Despite this, Kyoufu had always started at a disadvantage due to her small size. When she is drawn into close physical combat, she will often try to find openings to use ninjutsu. Her physical attacks are usually swift, brisk, and rapid with less emphasis on power.
Shurikenjutsu [Rookie] Kyoufu never finished her formal academy training, however she did learn to utilize shuriken to some degree. She can throw them and generally hit her mark.
Stealth [Rookie] Kyoufu is actively working to develop her stealth-related talents. She is capable of using techniques such as Henge no Jutsu to transform into other objects. She can also interface with trees, allowing her to hide more stealthfully in forested areas, although she has not yet managed to conceal her chakra.
Water Release [Rookie] As someone with the capability to use Wood Release, Kyoufu also has the potential for Water Release Techniques. While she does not have access to the formal use of water release techniques, with focus she may be able to utilize this nature transformation enough to create moisture from her chakra and potentially walk on water.
