It was not just military might that garnered favor in Iwagakure, but also the cunning and cleverness of certain clans that had a respect for the Earth and everything that walked upon it. The Usagi (simply referring to themselves as "rabbits") were one of those clans that worked behind the scenes of Iwagakure's government and politics putting their ears to the ground and the walls. Priding themselves on being the ears of the land, the Usagi were known for being a civilian-based clan entrenched in wealth accumulated through years of servitude of other noble clans. Through time, they had become quite the heart of Iwagakure as one of the wealthiest clans that is known more for their entertainment. They are the clan that have said to have originated the concept of "Geisha" due to their role of being the most graceful and swift on their feet. It had become prominent around year -75 in Iwagakure when the ruling Tsuchikage was a woman. This empowerment caused the clan to take a more invested role in Iwagakure as not just entertainers, but also strategists and sentry due to their sensory ability.
By the present, the Usagi have become renown across the nations due to their abilities and prominence in society. The clan have prided themselves as being the root of powerful shinobi who ascended from the world of civility to join militia using nothing more than resources of the Earth and its precious minerals, They tell stories of themselves walking barefooted with hardly anything but wit and cunning to the present where they believe their beauty and grace have brought them prestige among the nations as a house that climbed from nothing. The clan still holds true to some matriarch-based beliefs such as women being the forefront of leadership as exemplified by the second Tsuchikage and the founder of their clan.
The same rituals do not transpire when it comes to other lands. For example, the Usagi may be more numerous in their home of Tsuchi No Kuni and the lands around, but they may vary in other lands. Mizu No Kuni is especially noted to have Usagi who are sensitive to water-based jutsu and are key factors in Silent Killing due to their sensitivity to seismic activity. Whether they are militia or not, their theme is quite the same as they are noted for being quite agile and graceful, making them idea for entertainment. While others may master dancing upon the soil in Iwagakure, Usagi in Kirigakure may be more attune to dancing upon the waters for their audience. When you seem a symmetrical hair style or the signature bound hair with a knot for the bandana or their rabbit insignia, chances are that you are in the presence of the Usagi.
No matter the village, however, the Usagi do suffer from a terrible Kekkei Genkai! The Usagi are said to be practitioners of a Dojutsu, but due to scarring in their founder's eyes, it is said she passed down this gene that divides the clan into a consistent Seventy, Twenty-five, and Five. This is to say that the clan has seventy percent of its individuals with partial blindness, twenty-five percent with normal vision, and a rare five-percent that are completely blind. Although the latter most may seem discouraging, the fact is that the Usagi believe that this small percentile is "blessed" due to them having the most potential with their auditory Kekkei Genkai.
Usagi Heritage
The potential to awaken to the power of the Usagi is there since before being born. They hear the world around them as it seems like slight miffs and rifts of noise. Eventually, they can have the ability to hear everything over vast distances when focusing and learning how to concentrate.
Usaginomimi no Tekunikku [Rabbit's Ears Technique]
Requirements: Usagi Heritage
The Usagi Clan's "Usagi No Mimi" (Rabbit Ears) allows the awareness of their surroundings through the use of sound. In the earliest stages, they identify sounds and presences within thirty yards with skill progressing to being able to interpret any sound-based stimuli within three-hundred yards. Their line of concentration whether they are listening in a certain radius to cover partial area or a complete diameter with them being the center will affect the number of items they identify with sound-based stimuli giving more concrete detail. In short, a consistent stimuli of sound such as rain will be more effective making it idea for them while disruptive stimuli such as explosions and Fuuton-based techniques will distort the area they are listening to making it difficult to identify targets. The skill with this technique determines how well they can overcome this fault and how much ground they can cover with difficulty when it comes to their listening and concentration.
The Usagi, in their early years, used this technique in the most simplest manner to help them with their balance upon the Earth when using dancing and arts alike with grace. However, these days, they use it to fuel the most important aspect of their Taijutsu and skills that use precision-based movement. As a result, they are more aware due to their sensory of hearing and they can deliver some more devastating physical attacks due to the momentum they build. They are known to be steady practitioners of Doton due to their hearing helping them be precise with sculpting of chakra-based structures using the soil and rock (though Doton proficiency is still required to utilize this).
Usagi no Hoppingu [Hare's Hopping]
Requirements: Usaginomimi no Tekunikku [Rabbit's Ears Technique]
The use of dance-like movements and momentum in order to deliver devastating attacks and counters. Due to the awareness brought on by Usagi no Mimi and the balance, they are able to be aware of their surroundings while meeting every movement with a counter or swift strike after evasion. A dance becomes a devastating Taijutsu that prioritizes speed. Due to their Kekkei Genkai and sensitivity to Doton, Usagi clan members are able channel such extreme balance that they can augment their weight and shift their balance with precision to perform mid-air jumps and kicks (Using lesser principles of Light Weight Rock Technique) that will propel them out of harm's way when opponent's believe they have caught them in a vulnerable position. This often can be utilized in ways that are strategic or beneficial to launching their counters or even helping them maneuver with ease.
Usagi Clan youth, due to the traditional arts of being entertainers, are taught to dance and move to achieve this ability early making it so they can at least jump once in mid-air by the time they are Genin. More experienced, seasoned, and elder Usagi are able to jump multiple times within succession making them quite efficient. This technique takes up a Taijutsu proficiency.
Regaria [Regalia]
Requirements: N/A
When Shinto Gods created symbols of their power through "Regalia," the Usagi Clan's matriarchs, seeing themselves as heiress, decided to take a lesson from them. Thus, using the materials of metals and gems they unearthed as resources, they would fasten footwear that had tremendously high-heels that curved their feet's stance and allowed them to wear something exotic. Man or woman, these are symbol to the clan as much as their silken Ofurisode kimonos and their bandanas and bands binding their hair for a symmetrical appearance of rabbit ears. The Regaria are plated and crafted from durable metal allowing them to infuse chakra into their physical kicks more easily. With the feet covered by the plat of metal and the heel being so high, they are able to give strikes that are similar to the impacts to mallets. As the Usagi are not traditionally shinobi, this is their preferred Bukijutsu fighting style as they do not favor shuriken and weaponry (often making them disadvantaged in ranged-combat). Although anyone can wear this footwear, due to their superior balance and fighting style, most of the Usagi can use these without any hampering to their mood or agility. Otherwise, it can prove burdensome for the average practitioner. This technique takes up a Shurikenjutsu/Bukijutsu proficiency.
Note: This clan has obtained infamy for their 1,000 Years of Suffering Technique using their signature Bukijutsu which is simply a kick to the groin after feinting an elaborate hand seal to distract their adversary.
