About Asahi
Asahi is a product of his family more so than his village. Though their ideals and philosophy tend to align, Asahi feels that his relationship to his family - his father especially - comes before any national duty to his village or his land. Raised in a stern household, Asahi learned quickly that the bonds of blood are thicker than water and that he must devote his life to the wellbeing of his family unit. The Hyōdō family is quite small, comprised entirely of Asahi, his father, and his brother, who had long since left them, and they have barely a ryo to their name, but Asahi's father - Hantoro Hyōdō - refuses to treat their family name as anything other than royalty. This lesson was drilled into Asahi's head throughout his childhood in the Kumogakure academy, despite their living situation crumbling away as a result of his father's mishandling of their finances. This came to a head years before Asahi graduated when his father was dishonorably discharged as a Shinobi, allowing his teammates to die in activate duty and being regarded as a coward within the village. This resulted in a level of ostracization for Asahi, but also a heightened level of expectation from his father, who pushed him even harder through the system.
A direct result of this pressure and financial hardship meant that since graduating the academy, Asahi has grown into an anxious, self-sabotaging, and spiteful young man. He works every day under the shadow of his father, poisoning Asahi's career before it truly begins.Out of a need to control his son's trajectory in place of his own, Asahi constantly feels the pressure of his father wherever he goes, which manifests in the form of a deep indecision, overexertion, and thoughts of inadequacy. Asahi is a deeply jealous person, unfortunately. His impostor syndrome results in him believing he is inadequate to be a true Shinobi, and as a result he harbors a vicious hatred for his comrades, though he would never be courageous enough to voice these feelings. This anger tends to manifest itself in moments of high stress for Asahi, where this shroud of civility tends to collapse.
But you would never know these things if you talk to him, and this is because Asahi is quite an agile, charismatic person. He coasted through the academy on passable but not impressive grades and proficiency. He walks around with a thin smile and a relaxed demeanor, tries his best to be amicable with all of his village mates, and generally exudes an aura of calmness and reliability. He simply understands that shinobi life is a high-pressure environment and has learned to bottle his insecurities away, to never truly be dealt with, all the while feeding into his pessimism and hatred for his father and the people around him; a recipe for disaster.
All in all, Asahi is an emotionally unstable young man who keeps up appearances to help himself get by, and to surround himself with people he can rely on. But this veneer of civility is bound to break eventually, at which point he has no plans for recovery.
Proficiencies
Taijutsu [Rookie]
As with all Shinobi that go through the traditional training at the Academy, Asahi has proficiency in hand-to-hand combat. Though he leaves much be desired; Asahi prefers not to get up close and personal with his enemies if he ever has the luxury of choice. Often, Asahi arms himself with a kunai blade, to deter those who are more skilled from trying to strike him.
Shurikenjutsu [Rookie]
Asahi knows how to hit a target at a distance with his ninja tools; he often employs Shuriken especially to create distance from his enemies, but he is no bulls-eye pro and often substitutes accuracy with multiple thrown weapons at once; one of them is bound to hit.
Stealth [Rookie]
When he's focusing on it, Asahi can be quite sneaky. He knows how to move without leaving a trace and how to recover intelligence; but certainly not to the extent that other Shinobi would have a difficult time discovering him. In particular, Asahi struggles with keeping his breathing and heartrate at rest when in tense situations.
Earth Release [Rookie]
Asahi's Ninjutsu is often Earth, as it is his first awakened element. He is not exceptionally skilled with Doton techniques; but he often uses it in a solidly defensive manner.
Wood Release [Dormant]
The reason Asahi was able to quickly pick up Earth release is because his bloodline gives him access to Mokuton; his father knows this, but was unable to awaken it himself, and so became focused on pushing his son to awaken this power. He has not done so yet, but the potential within him is very real.
