"hey, asshole." the kaguya smacks a walking stick against the sleeping boy's shoulder groggily. not enough to hurt him, just- they'd determined waking each other up was best at a distance to avoid being assaulted and it becoming a whole thing between the hyuga vs. kaguya. it's about- fuck, seven in the morning? how long did they sleep... sheesh. "it's time to work." he saunters out of the room after a single last smack against the other's bicep, slinking out of the shared bedroom of their apartment to the bathroom. toothpaste on brush, he stands in front of the mirror with water running, scratching his stomach as the utensil is scrubbed against significantly pearly whites. A groan escaped Tsukiya's lips, shoving two chakra infused fingers in Nichiren's direction. The strike met air. His arm promptly fell back down to the side of the bed.

The Hyūga's eyes shot open. His eyes darted towards his room mate's fading silhouette. What the hell? What time was it even? Tsukiya's eyes lazily drifted to the clock on his nightstand. Seven? Shit. That was right, they had a couple of tasks to do today.

With a rather recognizable sigh, the young Hyūga lifted himself off the bed. He rubbed the sleep away from his eyes. As per their morning routine, Tsukiya grabbed a pack of cigarettes from his bedside. Walking towards their bathroom, he lazily grabbed an ashtray on his work desk.

Moving to Nichiren's side, he carelessly set the glass bowl on the counter next to the sink, which resonated with a rather audible clank.

"Fish?" he slurred, as he popped the cover of his pack open, slipping one of the death-sticks between his lips, "can eat raw if low on time..."

Spark. Spark. Fire.

Tsukiya inhaled deeply. The first cigarette of the day was always the best one. Closed eyes rolled to the back of his head as he exhaled deeply, smoke now permeating in the air. Their routine was almost perfectly synchronized at this point. When the Kaguya would finish brushing his teeth, Tsukiya would start. Synchronous living: was that even a thing? It would last until the afternoon, then they would slip into the "routine" of wonderfully comfortable chaos.

two digits snatch against the boy's cigarette, keeping it hostage. "brush your teeth." he narrows his expression, though can't be taken that seriously with the foam at the side of his mouth. he'd stab him with the toothbrush, seriously. [break][break]

returning to his own task, he gargles and shares the bottle of mouth wash with the other. the cigarette left on the counter where he had been standing. tsukiya remains cleaning up in the open doored bathroom, and the fridge downstairs a little bit aways is opened, a few items taken out, and a quick "breakfast" prepared. minor kebabs would work. sausage, cheese, green pepper, and a small cube of fish. makes a few of them, three for tsukiya, two for himself. don't ask why he makes more for tsukiya, he'll punch you. [break][break]

it's silent for the most part, a few grumbles here and there, a bit of quiet mutters of where the keys were, nichiren squinting at how quickly tsukiya goes from brushing his teeth to indulging himself to the cigarette - before tsukiya fires back at how the can of sake that nichi has beside him is already mostly empty after just waking. shut up, they had vices. bicker, bicker- slight time skip. [break][break]

"the stoves not on right?" he randomly mumbles, the two walking together to the kisaeng house. though they'd probably detour to a convenience store first as usual - it's routine at this point. nichiren furrows his brows and frowns, "nah, i didn't even use it that long." totally safe, no worries... he glances towards tsukiya for confirmation that he did, indeed, turn the stove off.

"It's not on," he drawled, almost lazily. "I check it everytime we leave because you always forget to."

The Hyūga deviated from the road to Kisaeng House. He slipped into the convenience store without much fuss. The clerk behind the counter was not a shinobi. Just another unimportant civie, Tsukiya supposed. Well technically, so was his room mate, but that wasn't entirely accurate. The Hyūga gave her a nod of acknowledgement as he made his way to grab a bottle of cold tea from the long wall of refrigerators.

"Guess it's five o'clock somewhere."

While he often complained about Nichi's constant abuse of sake, Tsukiya wasn't really all too serious about it. Vices were just another aspect of their lives, just like food and sleep were. The younger of the two vajrakīlaya members grabbed a can of sake and tossed it behind him, knowing exactly where his partner would be.

It took a few minutes to purchase everything they needed, but once Tsukiya had his newest refill of bubblegum and cigarettes, and Nichiren his booze, they were back on the road to Kisaeng House.

almost fumbles the catch in the store, but safeee- lets tsukiya purchase everything (since nichiren was stupid with numbers and preferred most of the monetary management handled by the younger of the two), and once they're back on the road towards their destination he's asked the same question. well, not exactly the same. couldn't respond to the question in a pinky and the brain-esque style "the same thing we do every day, pinky"- yada yah. he muses quietly, sipping on the drink - bones a bit looser now that he felt a bit of a buzz. "mostly check in. fei hasn't really given any instructions, and yukio's gone too. i guess chill? unless there's something posted up for us to handle." usually tsukiya would be at work in the gambling halls, and nichi at work on the ships or casual loan sharking. it was nice that they got to hang, though he wouldn't admit that. his whole aesthetic is tsundere asshole, you know? attention is piqued as they approach the kisaeng house where there seems to be a few drunk pirates getting rowdy with some of the security at the club. normal sailors were one thing, but pirates... "oh..." he mumbles against his can, "maybe we'll get a morning work out?" they even had swords, neat!

Wow, rowdy pirates before lunch? That was new. Scratch that--perhaps the night wasn't over for them yet? Or... day? Tsukiya supposed.

Shrugging, Tsukiya continued to take a sip from his bottle, eyes casually wandering towards the direction of the pirates. Meh. The young Hyūga channeled chakra into the edge of his hand, as if to check on his preferred tool. The slight blue pulse disappeared as quick as it appeared.

The pirates seemed to be getting more agitated by the second. The argument devolved into some form of shouting. The Kisaeng security forces tried to diffuse the situation, but the Hyūga could see that they too were preparing for some form of scuffle. Geez, it really felt like it was too early in the day for that.

he groans, "seriously? you're the one with the whole, ~ gentle ~ fisting and everything. how homoerotic." grumbles about it, though knows he should probably diffuse the situation somewhat. then again, it could be fun to just... yeah, no, he wouldn't. he'd let the brat do it. as they grow a little closer to the situation, he coyly presses the can to his lips and... smacks his palm against the younger's back. an attempt to shove him forward in a stumble, so that he ends up direct center of the few surly pirates and the few aggravated young security members. from a safe distance observing, nichiren offers a shit-eating grin and "sike. you handle it! show them how gently you can fist them!" cue confusion, a slight laugh from one of the security, and a look of disgust from a pirate as he stares at tsukiya.

The shove had come as Tsukiya was mid-way through a drink. The bottle came flying from his grasp and the young Hyūga unintentionally spat out his tea at one of the pirate's face. Nichiren must have done that on purpose.

The Hyūga counted four pirates, two of them seemed armed with cutlasses. Who knew what they were hiding though? The teen could activate his dojutsu to see exactly what he was dealing with. He figured that would just escalate the situation though.

the scuffle doesn't last as long as tsukiya originally assumes it might. though they have some decent sword skills, their movements are poor and indecisive. with the assistance of the other security members, the small 'skirmish' comes to a close after several minutes, and the pirates sprint away screaming how they'll tell their 'boss' on them. nichiren grins from ear to ear, clapping at the events and the outcome. yes, he'd been a little meanspirited.but tsukiya won, didn't he? "see, you could totally take them." if he hadn't, nichi would have jumped in himself. he approaches , giving a nod to the security that disperses as he maintains a good distance away from tsukiya (just in case he was actually pissed at him, pft). Okay, maybe it was a little fun, even the Hyūga had to admit that breaking somebody's bones and closing tenketsu points brought a certain joy to his day. That didn't mean he appreciated how the Kaguya wasted his tea.

Tsukiya's eyes went back to normal as he beckoned his room mate with a hand. He wasn't that mad, after all. Security welcomed the two into Kisaeng House. Popping a cigarette in between his lips, the two strode into their base of operations with a kind of lazy swagger that you could only find in world-class deadbeats. Not that either of them slacked... often.

the duo enters the kisaeng house, eyes glancing along the various floors, nichiren bickering a little with the younger (and smaller) beside him. they did a few rounds - tsukiya didn't often follow him around this much, typically because he didn't get that many days off. but since they're both "off" technically, they didn't have much to do beyond observe, relax, and enjoy the atmosphere. after about an hour, nichiren realizes how much he hates that. [break][break]

laying on the wooden floor while everyone's laughing downstairs, he exhales a soft sigh in an empty room on the second floor. tsukiya had wandered off briefly, onto to return and lay down beside him. what the fuck do you do on your days off? especially when yukio was gone, and there was a limited amount of girls they wanted to be around. nichiren rolls onto his side, propping his head up on his hand as the karaoke room plays noisy music at them despite their lack of cooperation with it. "what'd make you wanna become a ninja, anyways?" they were pretty close friends, but personal details and things of that nature weren't often expressed. so nichiren really had little idea of the other's background, but... [break][break]

"i considered it when i was younger. but my dad never was, so i figured i'd just become strong like him." he reveals a minor detail, something he's never really told to anyone. [break][break]

The past few hours were spent socializing, smoking, drinking, joking, and more smoking. Bunch of degenerates. Days off were hard to come by these days and so Tsukiya welcomed the brief respite. Although, he didn't think he could afford more days like this if he didn't want to slip back into his old lazy self.

Interacting with the others came quite naturally to the young Hyūga. He was was pretty known in the gambling circuit after all. Not that he could ever play, but his appearance at many high-stakes games endeared him to some of the patrons and staff at Kisaeng House. He was good with numbers, and his eyes nullified most advantages cheaters had; no one had invented something as esoteric as Kādojutsu, thankfully. It helped that he could scrap with the boys and girls too.

He entered the empty room after a brief conversation he found himself involved in. They had argued that a .5 house edge was too low for gambling halls, and Tsukiya argued that it didn't matter on the long run since the vajrakīlaya had more money than they knew what to do with. Ryō was a finite resource, and most players didn't have the same financial cushion as their organization did. An edge was still an edge, and given the right amount of time, the vajrakīlaya always won.

"I hate stupid people," he said wearily, taking a long drag from his cigarette, "I should know better than to argue gambling mathematics with thugs..."

He sat beside his room mate with a sigh. He brought out what looked to be a steel pocket watch from his pouch. Upon closer inspection, it was hollow on the inside with no clock face or mechanisms what-so-ever. He popped it open, and tapped his cigarette on it, flicking the ash neatly inside the container.

Eyes rose as his friend decided to speak-up. He turned his head to meet Nichiren's gaze, unsurprised that the Kaguya was already facing him.

"I didn't want to become a ninja," he said after a moment, "I just didn't have much of a choice in that matter. Haha ue didn't really bring up any other options. It was just kinda expected for a Hyūga, I guess?"

"why didn't you run away or anything, then? do you have parents? is that ue?" sits up, curious. the term was a little loss on him, mostly because... well, without a dad that was traditionally whatever tsukiya was, nichiren was mostly raised by his mother - whom was of a far different culture, another location. with his shoes off, his right foot curls atop his left and he bunches his toes, arms wrapped around his knees as his chin rests atop. there was more freedom being what nichiren was, he noticed. he could go anywhere he wanted, didn't have to worry about a thing. it wasn't the same for tsukiya, not at all. "can't you just quit, then?" that's how most jobs worked, right?
