The Senju Clan originates from the Land of Fire, and count themselves as one of the founders of Konoha. When the Hidden Leaf Village was attacked by the Empire, many of the greatest members of the Senju Clan fell. Survivors of the onslaught ended up mingling with local populations in various locals. It is more common to find descendants of Senju who have a different surname than it is to find bands of Senju these days. Many are not even aware that they have Senju blood unless a rare kekkei genkai awakens in them: the ability to recover from wounds more quickly.
Beyond regeneration, the Senju are known to often manifest the genes for wood release in their blood. Not all wood release users are Senju, but most of the well known users in history have hailed from the clan.

A rare keikkei genkai found within the Senju bloodline. Those who possess this ability are able to regenerate from their wounds. At lower levels, this ability accelerates the healing process by an amount that is hard to notice. As it gets more advanced wounds that might take days to heal will be repaired with a night of rest. At its pinnacle those who possess this kekkei genkai can expend chakra to heal wounds without the need for hand seals, although grievous injuries such as amputation are not possible for even a grand master to heal with this ability.
