As people come, there are pessimists and optimists. Many people fall in the former. However, Ryota is known for falling into the latter. Seemingly perpetually in a good mood, he can be honestly described as chipper. Ever the amiable sort, Ryota does his best to be friendly with pretty much everyone. He even will crack jokes on occasion.
But, like any true Shinobi, Ryota is more than capable of being serious. When things get rough, he's the first person to drop the pretenses and cut right to the quick, being exceedingly blunt in the process. However, this reveals just how flexible he is in working with others. Generally speaking, Ryota is someone that is all too easy to like.
Hailing from the admittedly unknown Sadao family, Ryota is the first member of his family to take up the mantle of shinobi in seventy years. The last person to do so was his grandfather, who was getting into his golden years even way back then, when the world descended upon the now nonexistent Konohagakure. At first, there was a bit of protesting amongst his family. But his mother was the first to break, as she could see an all too familiar fire building in him.
While his family is not considered to be a clan of any kind, due to the fact that the vast majority of them remain civilians, every so often there will be that member of the Sadao family who is swept up with a intense desire to break from the norms and test themselves in some way or another. In the family, this is known as the 'approaching storm'..though nobody quite remembered why.
Ryota had always been the kid who ended up in all kinds of scraps, but never ones that they started themselves. Becoming a Shinobi fit him like a well tailored suit. After all, he'd always been the kind of person who had hung out in areas that resting shinobi frequented. From these men and women, he learned a lot of things, even after his days at the academy ended.
Because of them, he had picked up a few practical survival skills, as well as a few hobbies. Primarily, he has developed a bit of a fascination with the process of blacksmithing. However, he's also been found hanging out in various odd areas, reading. However, he was ever diligent in his work. After all, he remembered the stories his mother had told him about his grandfather, a man who had applied himself even when he was in his eighties. It gave him something to live up to.
Because of that desire to prove himself to, well..himself, Ryota has seen more than his fair share of combat, and was even made aware of something that made his families 'approaching storm' phrase for his decisions make sense, given the fact that his family possesses a rather rare gift. Between his obvious growing potential, and the fact that he seemed to have a passion for helping others learn, it was no wonder that he eventually became a Chunin.
Almost as soon as he was given the formal duty to teach others, Ryota threw himself wholeheartedly into the job, showing just how supportive he can be. Perhaps it was this very eagerness that helped push him over the edge into a higher rank, rather than remaining one of the rank and file. Much remains to be seen, but between his hobbies and work, it's clear that Ryota is shaping up to be rather more well rounded as a person than most children his age.
Taijutsu: Flowing River Fist [Apprentice]
When one thinks of a counterpart to the Strong Fist, the Gentle Fist is the immediate style that comes to mind, as it is considered to be the true opposite of the Strong Fist. However, the Gentle Fist is a style only really attainable by those of the Hyuga clan. As such, many taijutsu practitioners have spent years creating a method of hand to hand combat which can be used by the 'common man'.
Thus, the Flowing River Fist style was born. Flowing River Fist is primarily focused around use of the hands and arms, however, there are kicks in the style. While this may sound similar to Strong Fist, there are key differences: Where Strong Fist focuses on using raw strength to incapacitate an opponent with devastating blows, Flowing River Fist focuses on planting several strong, quick blows to a exposed area in quick succession, focusing on attacking the weak points in an opponent's guard.
While it might lack the same devastating force behind each hit as Strong Fist, it is more than capable of wearing down an opponent's defenses just as quickly. Because of this, Flowing River Fist is remarked as having a very strong defensive stance, applying the knowledge used to attack the gaps in another's defense to correct mistakes in the user's own.
This style also has the advantage of having several moves that focus on redirecting the strikes of an opponent away from the user. This is done solely for the sake of creating more gaps in an enemy's stance to exploit. While it is an incredibly robust fighting style, Ryota hasn't quite mastered many of its applications yet. Where a true master might be able to reliably send six or more attacks to a single area, he can really only reliably send two. He's also not quite gotten a handle on redirecting the strikes of an opponent. More often than not, he ends up creating a gap in his own guard by overcompensating. Ryota might not have the refined skill to take on a Taijutsu Specialist, but he can certainly hold his own against most opponents.
Kenjutsu: Hikishio (Ebbing Tide) [Apprentice]
The Hikishio style of Kenjutsu is just as much of an oddity as the weapon that is used in its practice. Due to being a style of fighting that was modified from basic Kenjutsu, the basics remain much the same. However, where Kenjutsu requires speed and strength in equal measure, Hikishio has a notable emphasis on speed and agility, prioritizing quick slashes that flow into each other. This allows the user to leverage their speed to keep up an assault of strikes that flow into each other, making it hard to press a proper offense against them.
While this might make it sound like the style has no techniques designed around self preservation, this is untrue. These techniques exist, but many of them revolve around movement of the body, rather than placing the sword between the user and an opponent's blade, such as turning the body to avoid a strike, or ducking underneath a slash. For now, this personal style is unrefined, and more often than not Ryota will be forced fall back onto the basics.
However, Ryota isn't afraid of abusing traits of his weapon of choice to do things that might be considered dishonorable, such as using the pommel or guard of the weapon to deal damage. Against a seasoned Bukijutsu or Taijutsu user, however, this does little more than create a bit of surprise. While Ryota can pull off enough of the techniques to be considered a practitioner of the style, he has a long way to go, and can't exactly ply the advantages of this style effectively against a Bukijutsu Specialist.
Stealth [Apprentice]
Stealth is a tricky thing, possessing many variables to keep track of. The noise you are creating, the ambient noise of an area. Speed of movement. The way in which one can blend into an environment. As a Shinobi, Ryota has obviously trained in methods to keep himself concealed. Unfortunately, while Ryota keenly understands the methods behind stealth, putting them into practice is a bit harder.
He simply lacks experience. Currently, he is more than capable of blending into crowds with ease, and can tail a target without getting caught immediately. But he does have issues keeping the proper distance in non-ideal scenarios. With time, perhaps these mistakes can be rectified. After all, experience is the best teacher.
Suiton: Water Release [Apprentice]
When Ryota first began to learn about his Chakra affinities, it was a coin toss to see what aspect would become more prevalent. In a seeming coin flip between Futon and Suiton, Ryota's primary result from the Affinity Test was that of the water release: Suiton. It is an element that he shows a fair deal of promise with, having the ability to walk across water with relative ease, along with being able to mostly retain his ability to move within relatively strong currents.
As is the typical progress made with this elemental release, most of the things that Ryota can do with it at this level are relatively small, and tend to pull small amounts of water from any nearby body of water. However, he does have a single extra option that he focuses his attention to: The ability to pull water out of the air itself. Currently, he can really only make coin sized droplets of water using this method, but it is nonetheless an interesting path to be walking.
Futon: Wind Release [Apprentice]
The second side of the coin of Ryota's natural affinities. His time in the Land of Earth showed Ryota that he needed to expand his repertoire further if he wished to be capable of helping others. As such, he began an almost obsessive regime of training in the use of Wind Release when he returned to Otogakure. Due to his deep drive to help others after witnessing his partner take so much damage, he has managed to push his limits, bringing his capabilities with the Wind element close to on par with his use of Water. As a result, he is capable of generating winds of enough force to actually be capable of being dangerous, as well as gaining the ability to use Wind as true projectiles, such as Air Bullets or small slashes of wind. However, there is still a long way to go before he can consider this element to be reliably helpful.
Hyoton: Ice Release [Dormant]
Considered little more than a rumor by some immediate members of the Sadao family, Ryota made an odd discovery during his Affinity Test. The results changed based on which hand he held the paper in. As a result, Ryota has become aware of a secret that flows through his veins: the power of Winter. Hyoton. While he does not yet possess the mastery over frost that is the signature of this Advanced Release, the potential is there. It just needs time for his other affinity to be teased out, as well as brought under control.

↳ Nightfall can be considered a bit of an oddity as a weapon of choice for a ninja. Most who use swords would be keen to stick to a Katana or similar styled weapon. However, Ryota carries a sword that was designed after the weapons carried by pirates in Kirigakure: The Cutlass.
Nightfall itself is a very simple blade, having no special adornments aside from its cup guard, which has been shaped in such a manner as to resemble the ridges of a seashell. The sword itself has a notable curve, and has a single cutting edge going up the entire length of the bottom of the blade. Because of this, it only technically has a tip for stabbing. That being said, Nightfall is very obviously a weapon designed for quick slashing, especially given its relative lack of heft.
